In your review for the "And Ya Dont Stop" DVD music video collection you stated

"CD quality however, it is uncompressed. Having just finished recording an album, I am painfully aware of what uncompressed music sounds like & its not too pretty let me tell you. When something isn’t compressed, the end result is a mismashed uneven playback with some sounds being louder than others are. "

I think you are talking about audio compression where you try to equalize sounds so they compliment each other instead of being louder, like the drums being louder than the guitar, for instance. PCM CD audio is uncompressed 16 bit 48khz stereo, 2 channel audio. the compression that is used on dvds is audio bitrate (AC3, MP3, Mp2 Etc.) compression.

PCM 2 channel uncompressed audio will always be better quality then compressed mpeg2 audio which is contained on ALL ac3 mixed dvds. Of course most people wont be able to tell the difference. Most Dolby 2.0 disks use 192kbps ac3 compressed soundtracks, where as most DD 5.1 use 384kbps or higher.; The bitrate for Uncompressed PCM audio is 1440kbps.

Hope this cleared things up.

Kevin
