DVD Talk Hero - 2023 TOTY Award Winner
Thread Starter
Robert Altman's 1975 classic and the film Roger Ebert has called [i]"a wicked satire of American smarminess" has hit DVD. Presented in its OAR of 2.35:1 (anamorphic) and with a new 5.1 sound mix, it is a pleasant presentation of a terrific film. Also included is an Altman commentary track and a 12-min interview with Altman.

Thanks for the review, JustinS. I agree with almost everything you said.
Quibbles: (1) I would give Nashville an A+ for substance as well as style; (2) I think it is one of the truly greatest films of all time, not just of the 70s; and (3) I think it was the best movie of 1975, a year of great movies. I would rate Barry Lyndon 2nd that year, Cuckoo's Nest 3rd and Jaws 4th.
I'm pleased that someone is noticing this DVD release. A letterboxed release of Nashville has been my number one wish since I got my first LD player almost 10 years ago. Although Nashville has been almost unanimously overwhelmingly praised by critics for a quarter century, it has never had much attention from the public. Admittedly, it is not the kind of film which is for everybody. But the AFI did not even have it in its top 100 and I think that was nothing short of scandalous.
