Yes, if character driven story films are your bag. No, if you want shoot em' up hollywood tripe packed into 90 minutes. Either way, it's a damn nice DVD set and the "Magnolia diary" is very cool.

Here's my 2 pennies; although there are stylistic similarities between short cuts and magnolia, they are very different movies. Because you like "A" is no guarantee that you will like "B".
Rent the movie and decide for yourself.

Pretty good film, but the theatrical release was in dire need of editing. Then again, I wasn't enthralled with Boogie Nights, either. I love every single actor in Anderson's films, but the story doesn't move well enough. Either that, or I wasn't in the mood for three hours of meandering social interaction .

Never did get out to see it during its theatrical run, but bought it sight unseen when it went DVD. I love this movie. People may criticize its running time and its final reel, but I loved everything about it. When the movie was over, I just sat back and said WOW. Definitely something you'd want to have in your collection.

What was there to edit? I thought that this movie was perfect and so was the length. Making it shorter would have made it worse. Also the movie isn't that long. It just isn't the type of movie you watch every day.

My wife and I saw Magnolia when it first came out in the theaters. I thought then that it was probably the best movie of 1999. We watched the DVD last night and that was confirmed. It's stunningly great. My wife likes it almost as much as I do.
But in spite of the fact that I am a big Altman fan - I loved The Player and Nashville is one of my very favorite films of all time - I did not much like Short Cuts.

I watched Magnolia tonight, and it is one of the most beautiful movies I've seen in quite awhile. It was a rental from NetFlix, and I went and bought it right away from Amazon.
If you only tend to like strongly plot driven movies though, you may not like this as much, since it's mostly about the characters.
I didnt find it long at all even at 3 hours.

Let me add my 2 cents. I thought this film was absolutely brilliant and one of the best films of the last few years. PT Anderson is a genius. Like "Boogie Nights", I think this film just gets better each time you watch it. Despite its length, it`s never dull for a second. I wish it was 4 hours long. Everyone should at least rent it and check it out for themselves. You`re not gonna see to many more Hollywood films this ballsy.
