someone define the word duplicity. this is how the credits explain ripley's behavior. why don't the movie companies list that certain movies have homosexual anectdotes. i live in rural america and movies like this and big brass ring, etc. don't cut the mustard.

two questions.
1. Do they have dictionaries in Mn?
2. Any chance you could switch from an all mustard diet?

"...i live in rural america..."

Oh boy! ... That effectively means that there are scads of movies you should not go see, to avoid getting your rural sensibilities all shook up...

Some off-the-top-of-my-head titles to be avoided at all cost:

- As Good As It Gets
- Fight Club
- Top Gun
- Suddenly Last Summer (*)
- Cat On A Hot Tin Roof (*)
- A Streetcar Named Desire (*)
(*) ...the last three titles are based on plays originally written by that famous homosexual author Tennessee Williams, you know!...
- In And Out
- Torch Song Trilogy
- The Wedding Banquet
- The Cellulloid Closet
- The Pillow Book
- Queer As Folk (1 & 2)
- Trick
- Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss
- Prick Up Your Ears
- Jeffrey
- Strangers On A Train (Hitchcock, true, but still...)
- Rope (wow! Hitchcock again! Who'd have thunk!?!)
- Matthew Bourne's "Swan Lake"
- Boys On The Side
- Happy, Texas
- The Birdcage
- The Prince Of Tides
- Billy Budd
- Ed Wood
- Glen Or Glenda?
- High Heels
- ...

I could go on for quite a while longer, but I'm sure you get my drift!...

I suggest that, before going to see a movie in a theater (or before buying or renting a video/LD/DVD), you check with the IMDb review sites first, to see whether a particular title will (not) meet your criteria...

...and to think you call yourself felcher.

I think you're being a tad duplicitous.

you forgot flawless, three to tango and birdcage....problem is that most people don't want to see two guys getting affectionate...oh yeah, big daddy........i like movies that can drift into duplicity and make it work with a satirical side....sort of like most heterosexual comedy romance movies....this movie was way off base.....

Indeed The Birdcage is on my list, and I didn't forget the others ... simply because they are too numerous to mention (for instance, you can include the restored "Spartacus")...

...ahhh, rural America, where men are men and women are something else again...

I've always been far more afraid of close-minded, moronic homophobes than I am of homosexuals...but I guess I'm just funny that way.

Perhaps it would be best if DVD Talk had regular review posting and a special posting for the ignorant members. Are there that many ignorant people at this site....scary.

Avoided this one the first time around, because it really isn't worth it. Still, I'm afraid I'm too weak to avoid it the second time.

felcher, I hope you are merely trolling here, because if not, you are a truly sad person. I realize the personal insults are not tolerated on this board and, beyond that, my insulting you would be a waste of my own time... Realizing that there is no possible way that anything I write will have any real impact, I should just point out that you were more disturbed by the sexuality in this movie than you were by the violence. If this means nothing to you (and I expect it does not) then I pity you.

Closing, as Felcher's last post in this thread does fall under my definition of "trollish" behavior (and yes, I know he has been posting here for quite a long time).

Any questions, e-mail me.
