I read reviews claiming the picture quality on the SF2 anime DVD was "VHS-like". Well, that's bull. Certainly, the picture is not as nice as that of a top modern anime disc like Nightwarriors, but for an early anime DVD, it's just fine. It looks better than the Ninja Scroll disc, which IMHO had faded colours and an annoying "low-resolution" look. Overall, the picture is acceptable.

The main problem I have with the DVD is that it only includes the English dub. While it's a decent dub, the original Japanese soundtrack blows it away. The voices on the JP track are far more appropriate, and it has a bad-ass original music score instead of the once-trendy hiphop/techno/metal songs on English dub. It's not presented in DD5.1 either. Weird and annoying given that this is a Sony Music release.

Given Sony's track record with DVD, one would think they would give it a great presentation (16x9, DD5.1, both language tracks). It's not the case here, but if you're a fan of the movie, this DVD is still not a bad deal. At a low list price of $24.99, it's a good choice if you're looking for some adrenaline-pumping. well-animated fighting anime.
