Yes, I know the movie is the Citizen Kane of sophmoric comedies. I want to know how the picture and sound is. I've read some pretty negative things in the two reviews I found on this title. I know you are limited by the source material, but just how bad does it look and sound? How is the making-of feature? I need to know if I should keep or return my copy. Thanks.

Well, I haven't gotten my copy yet, but I wager that the new DVD is as good as Caddyshack is going to get in the forseeable future. It must be better than the VHS, and is most likely better than the current, full frame, non SE DVD out now.

Well, it certainly isn't perfect but it's a lot better than the grainy VHS tapes I've seen. And the transfer is anamorphic. Unfortunately the source material just isn't that great. However, this is the best release the film will probably ever see on dvd, and I like this movie way too much not to own it. Making of feature is about 30 minutes; haven't seen it yet but supposedly it's pretty good.

If you like the movie, don't even hesitate, buy it. I think it looks just fine considering it's age. Sound is mono but it's always been mono. Sometimes these review sites expect everything to look and sound like the movie was made yesterday. They complain when they see a few scratches or grain on a 20 year old, low budget movie. They're being totally unrealistic. The making of feature is pretty good. It has recent interviews of several cast members, even Cindy Morgan. No Bill Murray though. The movie is still hilarious 20 years later. Highly recommeded.
