Can anyone give me a review of the DVD of the 1947 film noir, "Brute Force", starring Burt Lancaster? Since I can't find it to rent anywhere (even on VHS), I'm looking for a review of the film as well as the transfer.

Gamblor,

Brute force is an above average noir, with an interesting story and a few well placed plot twists. Overall, the performances led by lancaster are good to very good. I did not pay attention to the quality of the transfer, with a 1947 vintage I guess the fact that the transfer did not intrude in my enjoyment of the movie is what's most important. If you tend to like the 40s and 50s crime and noir films I think you will enjoy Brute Force.

I guess I'll have to pick this one up. I am obsessed with film noir. Unfortunately, it's hard to find a place that rents a lot of films in the genre (even on VHS).

brez...
If you have any other recommendations on film noir (especially lesser knoen titles), do me a favor and pass them on to me. List them here or email me.

Of course, that also goes for anyone else who stumbles upon this post.
