I have the Ultimate Oz edition on LD. Does the Oz Gift Set DVD have that many more extras and improved quality that I should get it (and sell off my LD edition)?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I've compared both of them directly.
With the DVD, you get:
1. significantly improved picture quality (sharper images, deeper colors, less scratches, etc.)
2. 5.1 remix
3. Fewer (zero) side breaks
However, you lose the following features of the laserdisc:
1. Commentary track
2. Original mono soundtrack
3. Script, Photos, and other pack-ins
I decided to keep the DVD because the commentary track, while really really good, is nothing I'd listen to very often and contains information that is readily available in various OZ books, web sites, etc.
Major Oz fans/completists will probably want both sets.
But, if you're looking for the best picture quality, the new DVD is significantly better than the LD box.

Thanks, bboisvert.
I figured the picture quality had to be better; thanks for verifying that. And I agree with your thoughts on the audio commentary.
However, doesn't the DVD Gift Set (rather than the regular collector's edition) come with a copy of the script and photos?

The big box set does come with those extras. I still have one unopened I picked up at Circuit City for $15.
