I'm a poor audiophile. Right now this is what I'm running:

Harmon Kardon Signiture 2.1 5x100 amp
Marantz AV-600 THX Pre-amp
Marantz CD-67SE CD Player
Toshiba SD-3108 DVD
VonSchweikert VR-3 speakers
Running on the cheaper Kimber Cables and Monster Audio stuff

The HK actually preforms a LOT better than I expected. The VR's are extremely demanding speakers and they pull whatever they want from the amp and it still goes, beyond listen volumes. I'm more worried about 2 channel audio than anything with the size of my speakers and the availibility of matching systems for VR so my upgrade path is limited. There are two ways I'm thinking of going. All out stereo with a pair of Vienna Acoustics Maulers and matching up from there for home theater. Or going with a less expensive system from Martin Logan with Aerius I's all around and that beauty center. The sub doesn't matter that much to me. I'm also sweating a Anthem 5x200 amp and the matching pre/pro. I'll have to graduate before I can afford any of this though. Hell by then I might just grab some VR-4.5's and send the 3's to the rear with a VR center...so much time to thing it over it doesn't matter.

Oh yeah, and forget about your Tannoy's, Von makes music of the Gods!

To each his own I suppose but if you want to hear the music how it was recorded with no "speaker color" added...Tannoy has no rival.

I'm not trying to bust up on yours, I just love mine. But from any speaker I've ever listened to (your Tannoy's not being one of them) I'd still take a pair of Von's over any of them. VonSchweikert prides himself on true to the recording. Their motto is "like a microphone in reverse". I'd love to do a side by side some day, but highly unlikely.

I admit I have not heard Vons...I am sure they sound awesome. Everything comes down to personal tastes in the end...I did however spend countless hours at my local AV store doing side by side testing of the Tannoys against everything I could find in every price range...no comparison. I will see if I can find a local dealer for Vons...Thanks!

Ok, I'll play.

Hitachi 50UX (don't know the exact model) RPTV
Carver M-500t (251 X 2 powering the mains)
Carver M-200t (120 X 2 powering the center channels)
Yamaha M-65 (170 X 2 powering the surrounds)
Denon AVD-2000 (DD processor)
JVC ??? (don't know model, 100 +1 CD changer)
ProScan 8680z (DVD player, seemless layer changes & flawless anamorphic down conversion)
Infinity Kappa 8.1's (main speakers, EMIT-R tweeter, I tested quite a few and came away thinking that the Infinity's were the sweetest sounding speaker I had ever heard )
Infinity Kappa 5.1's (center channel speakers, I use two for the center channel)
Infinity Kappa 5.1's (surround speakers)
HSU VTF-2 subwoofer

Oh well, that is all I can think of right now. As you can see, I will probably be upgrading the processor sometime soon with one that offers dts and is EX/ES compatible. Also looking for another Carver M-500t so that I can vertically bi-amp my mains. Other than that and a HDTV purchase in teh future, I am pretty content.

Later,
wrath

Not at all...it's all about budgeting. Hell not too long ago I had a job making $8 an hour lived in a $200 dollar a month rat hole apartment but I had a $4000 system for listening to music. Fellas, you got to know where your priorities are!

I'm not all that rich either, I am just a Home Audio buyer for an A/V dealer. Getting the equipment for cost is nice. That's the only reason why I have $10,000 in amps for my 7 channels.
