i know dolby and thx say to put surround speakers on the sides instead of the back
but i thought the surround speakers are suppose to be behind you ???

which is better ?

also the right and left speakers are they suppose to face inward toward the listening position or strait forward ????

how about the center speaker, on top of tv or schould it be placed on the wall at the same height as the right and left speakers ?

plz help
thanks in advance

First read this thread(same topic) http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/Forum5/HTML/006527.html

Second, all I can say is try different combinations of speaker placement with a movie that has good activity in all speakers and choose the set-up that sounds the best to you.

I have my setup with my mains about 15 feet apart from each other and angled in toward the listening position. My center is on top of my TV and my rears are behind me and angled toward the listening position. This sounds the best to me and yes there are many different opinions on the way you should set them up.

If you're using dipoles or bipoles for surrounds, you'll probably be best off mounting them on the walls.
If you're using direct radiating (normal) speakers for your surrounds, they'll most likely work best behind you, toed in slightly to your listening position.
