Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but it's connected to my Sony DAV-S300, so it's part of my home theater :-)

Anyways, I just bought a Sega Dreamcast with some store credit I had but I haven't bought any games yet. So, I went to Blockbuster and rented NFL2k1. When I put it in, the Dreamcast was making loud noises when loading and during play.. louder than I expected. I took the CD out and found out that it was badly scratched, so I put in the demo CD. It still made the loud noise.

Is this normal or should I exchange my Dreamcast?

Without hearing how loud of a sound your Dreamcast makes its hard to say if it is normal. But I will say that DC is noisy while loading and during gameplay.

You can really tell that it's loading.. I guess I can say that it's kind of screeching.

Yeah that is one of the first things I noticed too, you can really hear that laser lens scanning the disc. Whoooosh!!! Whooosh!!! It's normal, don't worry about it.

It's suppose to be like that, cause of the large gaps, and tight lines in GD-ROMs, which is the media dreamcast uses to operate your games. The laser shifts constantly to read the complex gd-rom information, causing the loud noise. Nothing to worry about.

The loud whining sounds are annoying, they're just about at the limit of hearing (for me). both the dreamcasts i have had (one was returned and replaced) and the one my friend has does this. Really loud machine.

It's normal, don'w worry about it. Probably the loudest drive I've heard. But who cares, it has the best games now, and for the near future.
