Actually, I DID read that thread, but the name of the sub escaped me. I guess this is a "Must Buy".
Now for the REST of the system...picking a reciever sucks.

I added this sub to my ProLogic system and it made a world of difference. A definite good buy for the money. Read the reviews at audioreview.com. For this price you won't be sorry IMHO.

Chess and I both swear by our Pioneer VSX-409/509 receivers. But then again -- he actually thinks sony can make a good subwoofer!

Well, I have only $500 to spend on a system.
That leaves me with a $275 receiver, the sub, and MAYBE an upgrade to the center channel.
I am going to consider Pioneer, as I have 2 DVD players and an LD from Pioneer , and LOVE the brand. I will also look into the Yamaha.
Thanks for the suggestions, and again..sorry for not searching. My brain is fried from shopping and taking back for 4 days straight.

Sony makes great receivers IF you get one from the DB or ES line. The DE line isn't as good.
For $275 though, you're mostly limited to consumer grade stuff. For that price range, I think Kenwood is the best way to go. Kenwood makes great receivers for the lower price ranges.
When you get more expensive, then you look at Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, Sony DB and ES, and many others.
Personally, I do NOT like Pioneer at all though.
