Let me recant my rumor of new Marantz receivers.

A week or so ago I posted that my salesguy told me that there were supposed to be new Marantz receiver models. He checked it out at CES and found there won't be for about 8 months. Only an enhancement of EX on the SR-18 or 19, I forget which.
So I guess I'm going ahead with the Marantz SR-8000 for about $950 after all.

Hmmm, I was hoping they'd come up with a Marantz version of the color Philips Pronto and bundle it with a replacement for the flagship receiver.
I guess, Integra's my leading candidate now if I don't get separates.

Maybe I'm losing my mind but I believe that Marantz already includes the Philips Pronto with thier flag ship receivers. Dubbed the RC-5000 remote it's the exact same thing as the Pronto packaged by Marantz and also programmed with a bunch of Marantz goodies ahead of time. I think the SR-18 and SR-14EX both come with a version of this remote. To me Marantz is still making some of the best receivers on the market, only bug is the lack of upgradability on most thier models. Denon has them whipped on this one...

Poorboy, I was referring to the new Color Pronto. It's ridiculous how cool this thing is. Anyway, it retails for $1000. The remote that comes with the Marantz flagship now is comparable to the old 4 bit grayscale Philips Pronto that can be had between $250 and $400. I have one.
Just the thought of trying to tell my wife in the future that I'm buying a remote control for $1000 is scary. Somehow, I think if I had a $4000 budget... I could get away with buying a $4000 receiver that came with a color Pronto or variant. If I were to buy a $3000 receiver, plus buy a $1000 remote, I would never hear the end of it.
Anyway, here's hoping Marantz takes my idea and goes with it.

I once tried to convince my girlfriend that the new car came with a very nice home theatre system but for some reason she didn't buy it...

I caught my mistake soon after posted. I didn't see the "color" remark. But if you think $1000 is obscene you should look at some of the Lexicon stuff and even Escient. They make systems that will make you cry...
