Hello, all. I'm looking for a little DVD player advice and figured you all might have an idea...
I've got about $100 in Amazon GC's that I've been saving up, and I'm keen on getting a DVD player. I own six DVD's... but no player whatsoever.
My question -- er, questions: of the players available at amazon, what do you think is the best buy (no pun intended) for a DVD newbie?
Or do you think it's a better value to buy a DVD player offline and use the amazon GC's to buy DVD's?
Any advice is grrreatly appreciated.
toots,
sleepygirl.

I was GOING to use mine on a DVD Player(Second unit).
The problem was, they were out of stock on every model I liked, so I used the GC for a PSX ONE(The new one isn't worth the $200 extra, plus new memory, controllers, etc.)
What I HAVE noticed is people LOVE the low-end Toshiba. Look at the ratings, and if I am not mistaken, people here have reccomended it.
(1600?)
If it is STILL out of stock, I'd just go B&M, or wait until they get the Post-GC stock back in.
So far, never heard anyone bash the Toshiba.

Thanx so much for the input -- I randomly happened upon this site while trying to figure out the whole Columbia House thing, and have since found this forum entertainingly informative and addictively readable.
In other words: y'all rock!

I have the Pioneer DV-626D which I got from amazon for $283 after like $60 in GCs or whatever, and I love it. If you're into playing CD-Rs through your DVD player, this is the one to get -- playing CD-Rs was one of the main reasons that I purchased this player, not to mention that I've had great success with Pioneer products in the past.

Definitely use your GC to purchase a DVD player because obviously you need it before you buy DVDs. I own an older Toshiba 2109 and never had a problem with it but it won't play CD-R or CD-RWs. My receiver is a Pioneer Elite, VCR is a Sony and TV is a Panasonic. I basically buy whatever quality product I can get a great deal on. I think someone here mentioned a while back they got the cellular coupons $50 off $100 to work on an electronics purchase. Its worth a try since you missed the $50 off $200 electronics coupon:
AMZN-CELLULAR
AMZN-CELLULAR2
AMZN-ELEC-CALL
AMZN-CELL-PHNE
Good Luck.
