Hope this isn't too silly a question. I'm about to upgrade to a 5.1 receiver and had
just about decided on the Denon 2801. I was at my local B&M checking it out and realized that the 2801 doesn't have component video input and output. While the 3801 does. I presently run component video line direct from my DVD to my TV.

So can I continue to run video direct into my TV from my DVD? What do I lose by not running it through the receiver? Or what do I gain by stepping up to the 3801 and running video through it?

thoughts?

I don't think there is any advantage to running your component cables through your reciever. If anything I'm guessing you just spend a bunch more on cabling. I have a Denon 3300 and run my component cables directly to the tv. If anybody knows why it would be benefiecial to run it through our receivers I'm excited to hear. On the 2800 versus the 3801 I would ante up the extra for the 3801. What a great receiver, it will have all the goodies you will need for a very long time to come whereas the the 2800 might end up lacking in the near future as more and more dts and 6.1ES dvd's will be released.

Running you component video directly to your TV great. Also, if you happen to get the better Denon, you can also run it through the receiver and lose no quaility. One advantage with the switching on the receiver is that when you add on other digital sources, you will have the necessary connections and not run out on the TV.
