I like it loud (5.1), nice movie, average video is alright with me. I think some of you will add The Matrix as a must-have DVDs for play-it-loud (Excellent 5.1 especially the LFE, I mean). I want to know what other DVDs in the same catagory as The Matrix, Must-have DVDs, to be put into my list. Whatever you put, I'll consider it and buy it if it is really nice. Thanks for your time.

If it's loud you like, then I would suggest U-571 (excellent bass), Gladiator (wow), and Titan AE (amazing).

In my opinion, one of the must-have DVDs for any home theater is Fight Club. With all the extras and the wonderful transfer, it doesn't get much better than this...yet.

Some of my favorites, including already mentioned:

1) Toy Story 2...one of the best, if not thes best, DVD's out.
2) Matrix...great effects, sound, and extras.
3) Gladiator...can you say "6.1?"
4) The Fifth Element...great DVD to test your colors.
5) Mission to Mars...has a really cool scene where the guy's voice circles you. Also the "tornado" scene on Mars is killer.
6) The Patriot...the war scenes are great for front to rear effects.
7) The Music Man...can't forget the classics. This movie is greatto test the resolution of the DVD player and TV because of the checkered suits the professor always wears.

While not in the same category as the others, Avia Guide to Home Theater is essential for setting up your audio and video properly.

1.- Titan A.E. Start to finish this
one will give the entire system a work
out.Highs to lows, side to side, front
to back and not just a chapter here and
there.Go with the DTS

2.-Saving Private Ryan The battle
scenes are amazing.Puts you right in the
middle of war.Power sub gets a work-out.

3.U-571/The Haunting Both of these
will test the foundation of any house.

4. Toy Story 1&2 If I had to pick
a all-around movie thats great in sound,
video, and pure enjoyment its Toy Story.
Buzz and woody can make your whole system
proud.

Add Apollo 13 DTS.

And if you're interested, Eagles 'Hell Freezes Over' and Bee Gees 'One Night Only'--both DTS.

Independence Day has a great soundtrack, not to mention the video and extra features make this a must have IF you liked the movie.

Saving Private Ryan, the opening invasion scene is great, but the ending battle scene is even better.

Starship Troopers has a great soundtrack, and makes an excellent stress test for a system. I've heard a system or two that went into audible signs of distress trying to reproduce this soundtrack at theater like volumes.

T2 should be in every dvd collection.

Das Boot has some incredible sound effects, but it's one of those titles you should probably rent first.

Of course if you like your music loud, check out some dvd concerts of your favorite artist.
