I don't think you should feel that way. Properly calibrated, from what I hear, yours should look better, due to better black level as Pharoh said.

Yeah, for what you get, these things are way too pricey. They were supposed to hit the market at $8-10k. But, for some reason, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, and Panasonic are all putting them out at much higher prices. Very disappointing.
The only benefit I see with DLP rear projection sets is no burn-in. And that's just a guess, someone may turn around and tell me these can get burn-ins just like CRTs.

I looked at the Panasonic DLP at Georgia Home Theater and I can say for $13K versus $3k no way. The design of the TV looked great but the HD picture comparison was not worth the extra $10K IMO. Unless of course you want to look at the picture from an angle of 45 - 90 degrees then there is a huge difference.
