Ive been hearing alot of people say that some of thier DVD players(Toshiba,Sony,Pioneer Models) dont play some of thier DVDs. Well i bought a Apex AD-500A at Circuit City for only $99.99 and it works like a charm. Its been playing all the DVDs that people have been having problems with like Mission Impossible 2, Scary Movie, Gladiator and Road Trip. And it plays every other DVD fine also. I even went and bought my GF the Apex DVD player also.
I mean if you can afford a more expensive brand model than go ahead but i mean for your first DVD Player its a good investment. Later on i will buy something else but im happy with this one for now.

Why doesn't it suprise me that a Triple H fan would buy an Apex player? Just so you know, JERICHO RULES!
All fun aside, that's good that you've not had problems with it. I know alot of people who do have problems with various apex players. The true test though will be seamless branching. Go rent The Abyss or T2: UE and play the special edition cuts of the film. If those play fine, then your player is probably ok. One thing about the Apex that I couldn't stand was how bad the downconversion was. It looked like watching an MPEG movie on the computer when compared to my Sony's. Anyhow though, good luck with the Apex!

I think it's pretty safe to say that the Apex is NOT a good DVD player. If it meets your needs then fine but the quality is shite.

I try not to buy things that aren't that bad.

I'd be more concerned about the long/medium-term reliability issues with any Apex player, compared to seamless branching and compatibility issues.

Hey "game" I don't know what the heck you are smokin'. The only two people I know that bought Apex DVD players both had them breakdown in the first couple of days. They couldn't run fast enough back to CiCi. If you are only going to spend $100, get a VCR.

I bought my first DVD player the day after Thanksgiving, an APEX AD660A for 149.99. It had a problem with vocal sync on gladiator, and was just a pain in the rear to use. I only bought because of it's ability to play mp3, wich it did just fine... after you turn on your tv on so you can select the first track to start playing music, Like I said- pain in the ass.

So, after reading a few good things about the Pioneer dv- 333, I took the apex and exchanged it for the pioneer, for 50 bucks more.

To sum things up - What a difference $50 can make, sure I lose mp3, but I get a better picture, and ease of use, and not to mention component video out for when I buy a real TV.

Actually, I've had my apex for about 9 months, and I've only had trouble with T-2 and a few others. I only use it as a bedroom player, but also to watch my other region dvds, and also my mp3s in my room.
plus, turning off the macrovision has had its advantages.

I have a Raite (very similar to the Apex) hooked up as a second DVD player in my home theater system specifically for playing PAL DVD's from the UK and DVD's from other regions as well as for the ablity to turn Macrovision off. It's worth every penny I paid too just for the capabilities it has.

The old Apex's were crap. The new ones aren't. When they "fixed" the loophole menu they also fixed a sh*tload of other problems too. I've got a recent 600A, and it's problem free.

I've read about syncing issues, seamless branching probs, etc. and have not experienced one of them myself. I've had JVC and Panasonic DVD players, both have ended up on the junk pile. The 600A has so far out performed all of them.
