I have been reading about how to calibrate my sound system with Video Essentials and a SPL meter. Everything says to calibrate to 75 db, but I only listen at 55-60 db. Anything wrong with calibrating to 55 db instead of 75? Thanks,

Jason

No there is nothing wrong with calibrating at 50db! The 75db calibration is what the reference level settings are. The main concern you should have is getting all the speakers to be producing the identical sound level from the listening position.

Frank S is right. Calibrate to what ever level you normally listen.

This must be a stupid question that I am about to ask, but.....
how can you tell from your receiver what
db level you have?
I have the onkyo 575x, but it's too complicated for me! Well, not really, I'm
just really lazy, and haven't had much time
to really look into everything that goes with
this receiver, including the toaster part.

Can't answer your question but just wanted to say that there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

Here's my stupid answer.

You can't tell just from your reciever. You need an SPL meter. You can get them at Radio Shack if you want one.
