Digital TV was launched at midnight last nite. The birth of a new era supposedly but no one here in Australia actually has the equipment to watch it!
Who here has Digital TV and how is it working out in your country ?

Digital cable here in the U.S. sucks ass. Actually, it's an analog signal converted into digital for the tv. Digital satellite, i.e. Direct TV is very good. Much better picture quality.

A few years ago I bought a $500 Sony VCR. After I would watch a movie on the new VCR, my cable looked like crap. Then I got a Dish network digital satellite and it made the VCR look like crap. Then I got my DVD player and it makes the digital satellite look like crap.
Wonder what will make the DVD look like crap in the future?

Ha! They still can't decide on a standard.
I'm glad I won't be in the market for DTV for a few years.

DVD Talk Legend
Just got mine a couple days ago. Got the Mitsibishi 55907. All I have is basic cable right now, so it was really just for my widescreen movies. Eventually I'll look into digital broadcasts but not for awhile.

I think he is referring to digital brodcast TV.
I believe there are some stations in the US that are now broadcasting signals in digital. I recently checked on this in my area, nothing here yet. There is 1 station in my DMA that has allocated a channel slot to a digital broadcast, but that's it. No actualy broadcast yet that I know of.

Here in the Los Angeles area, just about every channel is rebroacast digitally, but it's just an upconversion. There is the occasional prime time show that actually is in HD.
I have a digital TV, but I don't have the HD receiver, and I am in no rush to get one. Right now I'm just enjoying my DVDs until some REAL programming arrives.
