Hey all. Just got a new Sony 845 DD DTS reciever for Christmas. Ive hooked everything up and still cant get DD. Im starting to beleive its the subwoofer. I cant connect it to Subwoofer preout. Do I need a new SW?

2.)Is the DVD player connected to the receiver with Digital COAX or Optical?

1. I have a sony 360 DVD player, and Ill have to check on that.

2. Yes I have a coaxial cable running from the DVD to the receiver.

Ill be back. Im gonna to try the bitstream thing

Hi. No it didnt work. I dont have a bit stream analyzer. Now my speakers have a static sound coming out of them. Is this cause I turned my DVD players DD on?

Just some thoughts:

Check the setup menu in the DVD player itself to be sure it is passing the dolby digital signal

Check the receiver to be sure that it is not set to some type of bypass

Check the disc itself to be sure that it has a Dolby Digital 5.1 signal available. Some DVD's have Dolby Pro-logic and Dolby 2.0 or 3.0 and not 5.1.

Also, make sure you are playing a DD source. That doesnt mean just popping in a dvd and let it run on the main menu. Access a scence with lots of action that way you can test it out by ear.

also, on some dvd's, you actually have to SELECT the dolby digital 5.1 audio track because it's not set to that by default (crazy, i know ). but yeah, by far, the #1 reason why people can't get dd 5.1 is because they didn't setup their dvd players to output a bitstream and they didn't select the receiver to receive the signal through the correct digital port....

I had this problem too last year (Sony DB930). This is what I made sure of:

- No RCA cables coming from the DVD player (assuming you're using SVHS for video & fibre / coax for sound)

- Plug the DVD into the amp's DVD input (not one of the "video 1/2/3" inputs; I'm not sure if this really matters but it made me feel better when I was troubleshooting

- DO NOT try to use the DD5.1 amplifier setting (confusing that; it's only for the 5 RCA cables from the DVD player to the amp but you don't need that)

- Find a DVD that is DD5.1 (and make sure to choose the DD5.1 soundtrack in the disc's setup menu)

- If you're not now listening to DD, go to the DVD player's setup sceen and fiddle with the PCM/Bitstream output setting

Once I did all that, I got mine to work. Good luck!

you need the receiver to DECODE the digital signal and convert it to an analog signal.

Ok I have the same reciever so I may be able to help you.

Make sure your dvd players output is set to bitstream, if you are not outputting a digital signal you can not get the 5.1 sound.

Also if you have the dvd players video connected to the reciver make sure it is going to the same category as the audio, for example if the coax is going to the dvd/ld jack make sure the video is going to the corresponding jack. If you have it connected to video 1 or something like that you will not get audio, because the coax jack is for the dvd/ld input.

Finally make sure the reciever is set for the right input signal, in this case digital, or auto. You might have it selected to analog or optical digital input, and in this case you are connected via coax, so therefore that is the input you need selected.

Hey guys. I found a new way to get DD since I cant get it out of my receiver. You disconnect the receiver. Then you open your window. And finally you chuck it about 20 feet into your neighbors driveway. Alright maybe that doesnt work. Seriously, Jesse I tried what you said and I couldnt get it. I think I maybe using the wrong wire out of my coaxial. Its a monster cable, that doesnt seem to fit. Im all messed up with this and the instruction book wont tell me a damn thing.

a plain RCA cable will actually work just fine at least to get a digital signal. make sure it's male on both ends.

Here's a silly question, but can you get any audio from the player AT ALL? Even when playing a CD?

Ok, here is what your audio set up should look like.

AUDIO ATT: OFF
AUDIO DRC: STANDARD
DOWNMIX: DOLBY SURROUND
DIGITAL OUT: ON
DOLBY DIGITAL: ON
DTS: ON

Once you have that set then you should be good to go. Let me know if you still need more help.
