Hi There.
After reading some reviews I made up my mind and bought the Toshiba sd-1600. It is a nice player (paid 179.00) at Sears. The thing that irks me about it is the remote is not universal, and with all the other electronic stuff I have it would be nice not having to use 5 remotes to watch a DVD.

The other player I was considering was the Samsung dvd-c600 (at Sears for about 220.00 after coupon). I was considering this unit because it has universal remote and is 5 disc!!

I pretty much ruled out Sony because of the lipsinc problem I have been reading about with the entry level models. As well as I have Toshiba and Samsung products and am really happy with them..

So I guess the question is do I stay with the Toshiba which I have read nothing but good stuff about, And deal with the inconvenience?? Or do I spend $40.00 more and get the Samsung which I CANNOT find any reviews on???

Thanks All!!

I would be leery of the Samsung. And Sony hasn't had lipsinc problems for a long time.

I would be leary of five disc DVD changers, I have always had trouble with my five disc CD changers. If you do get the Samsung, this might be one of the few times I would recommend an extended warranty.

The thing that irks me about the Toshiba SD1600 (which I have) is that the Toshiba TV remote doesn't recognize the DVD player (and I just bought the TV one month ago, it is the 27" version). So... I have a remote for the TV, a remote for the DVD, a remote for my JVC VCR, and a remote for my Dish Network satellite system. Plus I have a wife who leaves the remotes on the couch or on the coffee table and a child who will be three in January who thinks it is funny to run off and hide remotes.

Why not just spend $10 and buy a programable univeral remote instead? I have one made by Zenith and it works on my Kenwood stereo, Sharp 32" TV , Toshiba 1600 DVD player, Magnavox VCR, and my Jerrold cablebox. Plus it glows in the dark too so you can see all the buttons in a dark room. So now instead of having to keep track of 5 remotes, I only need one.
