Who would you want to quit acting or directing?

With all the hulabaloo over DDL quitting and some other stars or whatever, i thought apropos to see who we would want to just quit acting.

i hate to say this, but i wish Robert De Niro retired from acting. he just does these things now that just don't gel with anyone. and, i am sure they are passion projects of whatever (wants to do different before done), but he was so great. i just wished he would stop putting out this crap imo. maybe, this new Scorsese The Irishman might do something, but after that i would hope he walked away into the sunlight.

so who would you want to quit acting or directing?

De Niro was fantastic as Bernie Madoff and I've enjoyed some of his old guy comedy roles. A big step down, for sure, but it's fun watching him have fun.

He was great in Dirty Grandpa.

If you don't watch their movies or post in threads about their movies, then you can pretend they retired and you won't get your panties in a wad.

Yeah, I doubt I'll ever watch another movie directed by McG or Tyler Perry, but I don't see how my life changes if they never make another film or not.

Guy Ritchie. I keep thinking how much I might have liked those Sherlock Holmes movies with the same cast but a better director.

Zack Snyder.

I appreciate the effort but get the hell out of here with your overly stylized BS!

Re: Who would you want to quit acting or directing?

Michael Bay
Brett Ratner
Ridley Scott
McG
Jay Roach

I guess George Lucas technically already quit.

I dunno, I could go on. Every hack director Director in Hollywood I guess. Every Hollywood Director whos main priority is to just assemble a movie and stay on budget. The only problem is, they could ALL quit, but it doesn't matter because there is no shortage of new hacks waiting in the wings to replace the old hacks.

actors.

T.J Miller
Josh Duhamel
Lena Dunham
Amy Schumer
Tyler Perry
Quentin Tarantino
Adam Sandler (when he acts in movies he produces).

every actor who only has their looks going for them.

Re: Who would you want to quit acting or directing?

De Niro was also great in The Intern...the legend is still worth watching on the big screen, or on your own big screen tv. I am not a big horror fan so I pass on Eli Roth films, but I admit that his trailer I recently watched again for the fake movie Thanksgiving is a gosh darn masterpiece. Far be it for me to say he should retire from creating films.

If Julia Roberts never made a movie again I'd be ok with that. Wouldn't miss those giant horse teeth and obnoxious cackle one bit. And hope she takes Cameron Diaz with her.

Apatow and Fillion never making anything again would be a great day for me.

I'd agree with everyone listed so far, including the "mystery" director hinted at by stvn1974.

Re: Who would you want to quit acting or directing?

Here is a hint....

If I had a time machine, it would be a toss up over what I would try to stop first...Hitler coming into power or Adam Sandler getting into show business.

Sorry, I know this is opinion, but listing Nolan here is very peculiar. I've yet to see him make a stinker, or even a mediocre one.

It's an ongoing joke with stvn1974. He hates Christopher Nolan. To the point where I think he's mailing animal carcasses accompanied by surveillance photos of Nolan's kids.

Re: Who would you want to quit acting or directing?

I don't think he should quit yet, and I'm a fan, but Kevin Smith hasn't impressed me as a director/writer in many years, he seems to only be getting worse. His movies are fairly cheap, but I hate to see a very likable smart guy struggling like he has artistically.

Stinker no, mediocre yes. For me he's hit or miss and lately his movies have been getting unnecessarily longer.

Mark Wahlberg. No matter what role he plays, he always comes off as stiff and robotic.
