Re: Assassin's Creed: Origins - 10/27/17

One thing I've always hated about the Assassin's Creed games was the combat, and it looks like they finally addressed it in this game. I still think first and foremost it should focus on being a stealth game, but I always felt like you were punished if you got mixed up in combat, which flat out sucked. I think Splinter Cell did a great job correcting that and it looks like this game is finally on that page as well.

I also liked how they are finally updating the weapons. Being able to just pick something up off the ground and compare it to what you have should be the standard now.

I am really looking forward to this. I absolutely loved Black Flag and the sailing battles i found to be a great break from the on land stuff. Overall a superb game. I gave the Paris game a miss but did pick up the London set game and i actually had a blast playing this as well. I am liking the look of the Egyptian setting and getting boats back in it is a great thing in my opinion. Will look at maybe a day one purchase, but cautious after the mess the Paris game ended up being according to reviews.

I got burned out on this series a few years ago. Are they still doing the lame "modern day" stuff or has that been dropped?

Graphics/art look amazing. But then so did Unity, and we all know how that turned out...

While the series was staring to encroach too close to modern times, this feels like almost too big a step back in time. But I guess you gotta do that if you want to go to ancient Egypt.

From what I read, there's going to be sections set in modern day but will star a new character.

I am going to get this after watching that video. Sucks that the steelbook version is so expensive.

They still had a little bit of the modern day stuff in Syndicate, but it was only in cutscenes. They were a very small part of the game. I don't remember there being more than a few minutes spent in the present day.

Unity sucked, but Syndicate was very underrated and might be my favorite AC game. It's a shame it was released when enthusiasm for the series was so low. Looking forward to this one..

Interesting. So for an extra $10 over the Gold Edition, you can order the Collector's Edition (The God's Edition), but it only comes with the Deluxe Edition instead of the Gold Edition. So I guess they are testing the waters to see if people are more interested in the physical items or the DLC content.

Spoiler:

There is also a $800 super edition over at the Ubisoft store. If there are 999 people crazy enough to buy it, it comes with a 28.7 inch statue and a bunch of other shit including not one, but TWO steelbooks.

I'm in. Outside of AC III and the initial version of Unity the series has been awesome. Day one for me.

I dig a few of the trinkets (map, soundtrack, amulet), but the confusion over the different edition tiers will probably just nudge me toward getting whatever edition is the cheapest with the steelbook. Doesn't help that I don't have any use for one of the three (!) different statues.

Re: Assassin's Creed: Origins - 10/27/17

I'm always a sucker for great trailers...in game footage or CGI or whatever. I sort of gave up on AC after the bug infested Unity which had a great concept but all the quirks and bugs were a disaster.....

However Orgins does sound a bit interesting and the setting itself could help the game. Pretty neat looking new trailer though....

And here is 24 minutes of gameplay...no doubt the setting is pretty awesome.....

I used to play every AC game but totally lost interest half way through Black Flag.
However, with this one I am back in. Just pre-ordered.

Looks phenomenal. The dialogue delivery feels a bit off to me, but the environment is precisely what I was hoping for. I'm excited.

After many, many updates, Unity is actually quite fluidly playable and ... mostly enjoyable, despite being incredibly bound to the same-old AC formula. Syndicate ended up being a strong improvement, both in gameplay retooling and in a novel atmosphere.

Re: Assassin's Creed: Origins - 10/27/17

I wasn't sure on Unity which is a shame because all the "pre-release" trailers made the game fun with the co-op mode because a few of wanted to do that part. I can remember almost getting it and that first week or two after release was a disaster. I know they came out with many updates and fixes later but other games came up and friends went in other directions.

But this one...and who doesn't like some ancient Egyptian setting with some mysterious lore. Supposedly they did a change with the combat system also which is fine with me...swords, spears, shields, bows...oh yea. But looking back I don't think we've seen a game with this setting before and they really did capture it. My problem is I've already pre-ordered SW; Battlefront II, I'd like the get Middle Earth;Shadow of War since I played the first one, Wolfenstien: Colossus looks like a blast like the first one and still eyeing COD; World War II.

Yeah, too many games at once.

The one I'd hold off until last would be a Ubisoft game like this one, as they usually need to get patched mercilessly, and the release-day version is almost always buggy, but mostly, prices on Ubi games drop like rock, and more quickly than games from other publishers.

Yep....except with the Far Cry series which has been a blast to play. But the few AC and even For Honor which had a huge buildup had a some issues. But I did and still play Ghost Recon Wildlands and I didn't have any issue with it. I'm going to hope Orgins follws GR: Wildlands and Far Cry in regards to having very minor issues at all. I don't know but we'll see come close to release when and if some early release reviews come out or not.

Whats tough about it? Buy em both.

Well i got into the AC series late. I played the first one for about 10 minutes and never got back to it. Missed everything else until Black Flag. Loved that game (and recently completed a second play through). I gave Unity a miss after reading about all its problems, but picked up Syndicate and loved that game as well (some of the best graphics for a PS4 if you ask me).

This game looks like the series is making a strong comeback and i will be grabbing it day one.

Oh, and i will be grabbing the new Wolfenstein as well that day. That series has also been awesome in recent years.

Amen......and Origins wasn't even on my radar until I saw a few trailers. I did also see a side note saying map wise this is the biggest ever in the AC series.
