Bruised (2021, D: Halle Berry) S: Halle Berry - Netflix
Blake Lively is getting in the cage for the mixed martial arts film Bruised.
The action-drama will be directed by Nick Cassavetes, switching gears from his biggest box-office hits The Notebook and The Other Woman.
Sierra/Affinity is introducing the project to buyers in Cannes this week. The script, written by Michelle Rosenfarb, began circulating to foreign buyers over the weekend.
The film centers on a single mother working two jobs and a former MMA fighter who must return to the cage in order to keep her son.
Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk is producing alongside Linda Gottlieb and Guymon Casady of Management 360. Production is slated to begin in September.
Lively proved that she could carry a film with last year's breakout The Shallows, which took $119 million globally. She also was on hand at Cannes last year with Woody Allen's Cafe Society, which opened the festival.
She and Cassavetes are repped by WME.

I would watch the hell out of a film with Blake Lively as an MMA fighter.

So, since the creation of the thread, obviously, some things have changed. Berry took over as director and star.
Netflix paid $20mil for the rights. It will play in select theatres starting 11/17, and then drop on Netflix on 11/24.

I was more excited when Lively was attached. I enjoyed Berry in her small role in the last John Wick movie but aside from that she hasn’t made a good movie in years.

Halle Berry is lucky she doesn't look anywhere near her real age. Because there are not a lot of successful 55 year old female MMA fighters.

I hope this movie is good, would be a big deal for her.
I bet she has to work her ass off to keep that figure.

This Thanksgiving, Academy Award ® winning actress Halle Berry directs and stars in a triumphant sports drama about a fighter who reclaims her power, in and out of the ring, when everyone has counted her out.
Jackie Justice (Halle Berry) is a mixed martial arts fighter who leaves the sport in disgrace. Down on her luck and simmering with rage and regret years after her last fight, she’s coaxed into a brutal underground fight by her manager and boyfriend Desi (Adan Canto) and grabs the attention of a fight league promoter (Shamier Anderson) who promises Jackie a life back in the octagon. But the road to redemption becomes unexpectedly personal when Manny (Danny Boyd, Jr.) — the son she gave up as an infant — shows up at her doorstep. BRUISED marks the directorial debut of Academy Award winner Halle Berry and also stars Adriane Lenox, Sheila Atim, Valentina Shevchenko, and Stephen McKinley Henderson.

Not bad. I like when Berry actually acts and doesn’t just flaunt iit for camera. I saw interview with her talking about this. I loved Warrior and this gives that vibe. Looking forward.

I didn't care much for this. Berry is competent behind the camera, but I just didn't really find the story all that interesting or compelling.
