Kickboxer: Retaliation (2017): S: Moussi, Van Damme, Lambert, Tyson

Kickboxer: Retaliation continues where Kickboxer:Vengeance left off. It has now been 12 months since Kurt Sloan left Thailand vowing never to return. We pickup the story in a crowded sports arena with cheering fans where Kurt is now in a new battle – A title bout for the MMA World Championship title. When Kurt returns back to the locker room he is met by a familiar face along with, what we are led to believe to be two US marshals who charge Kurt with a crime and is extradited back to Thailand in an illegal manner. At some point during the journey, Kurt is sedated and later wakes up in a dingy cell at an infamous prison in Bangkok, Thailand.

Kurt soon meets the masterminds behind his abduction and is told he needs to fight a new formidable foe named Mongkut, who is a beast of a man, standing at 6'8" and weighing in around 400lbs of solid muscle. This is a specticle they know will bring in millions. Kurt is offered 2 million dollars to fight or face a life term behind bars, but Kurt is steadfast and just wants to go home…He will not put a price on human life for the pleasure of others. A bounty is placed on Kurt's head, prompting other prisoners to take shots to help coerce him to fight, however, Kurt can certainly hold his own and is not phased at all by any of this , however, eventually, under duress, he is forced to fight.

Yup, they made a sequel to Kickboxer: Vengeance. No release date yet, but it's already been filmed and will come out sometime this year.

My guess is this will also be a very limited release to theaters and will also be available on demand.

The 1st movie is on Netflix. It was a reboot of the original movie with Van Damme.

Here's the thread in case you had no idea it existed.

This will only be good if he fights everyone on that poster in the first 5 minutes of the movie - and that includes himself.

LOL... they put EVERY character on the poster and the main guy is nowhere near the top or focused on. I'm sure it'll be as good as the last one... which is to say that it won't be good at all.

Trailer leaked last month on youtube but was quickly removed the next day. It looked much better than Kickboxer Vengeance.

I thought the first one was miserable but I'll check this out when it hits video since I've seen every Kickboxer movie. Not real excited for this though. Honestly I'm more interested in if Albert Puynn ever gets his Kickboxer sequel with Sasha Mitchell filmed.

Well Go USA is distributing the sequel.

At first I thought that Van Damme didn't make the poster... then I realized he's the Michael Caine looking guy on the left. Oh dear.

Sweet! I had no idea Scott Adkins changed his name to Alain Moussi.

Re: Kickboxer: Retaliation (2017): S: Moussi, Van Damme, Lambert, Tyson

I watched this last weekend. Overall I liked it more than the first one but it still is nothing special. Lambert is a fun addition and the fights are good but its nothing special. The beginning feels more like a James Bond parody then a Kickboxer movie. If you liked the first you'll like this one, and if you have nothing else to do it will kill time. Van Damme is still great. The sad thing is that I haven't really enjoyed the first two but I would still check out the third one.

2/5.

FYI

This is now on Netflix.

Perfect. Now I don't have to pay to see it. 1st one was pretty bad, but I want to see if it improved a little.

This is now on Netflix... so I fired it up last night and it was pure hot-garbage. From the opening sequence to the end it's absolute shit. As someone who grew up watching everything Segal, Van Damme, Norris, Bruce Lee --- this might be the worst acting and plot in the history of karate / action movies. Avoid.

Yea, it was terrible ... but the thing that was REALLY bad is that the last fight kept going on and on and on .....

I actually fast forwarded the last fight. I've never had to do that during a fight or action scene before.

Is it just me or is there a trend in these newer martial arts pictures -- which really bring nothing new to the form -- toward needlessly protracted and/or slo-mo'd fight scenes that would only interest actual martial arts practitioners and leading performers with virtually zero charisma and almost as little acting ability? I know there was a lot of video-shelf shit like this back in the 80's and 90's, too, but it now appears we were really fortunate to have a handful of truly (or even reasonably) charismatic performers like the ones Rob V mentioned, who knew the moves (or at least the "screen moves") but could also command the screen when they weren't in fighting mode, and were able to parlay that into solid, nearly-A-level careers. I just can't see that happening any more. Scott Adkins seems to be the only one who's even come close, but even he seems to have hit a ceiling of sorts. Times have changed, I guess. Perhaps it's simply all been done.
