CLASSICFLIX HOME VIDEO
I am thrilled to announce we are launching our own home video label under the “ClassicFlix” banner with our first releases coming in late March.
Like many good independent labels, we plan to make available long-neglected classic films -- some which have never been released on DVD or Blu-ray and some which badly need restoration. I’m not able to disclose what our releases will be at this time, but I hope to make an announcement early next week.

sounds like they are using the old Netflix model of renting movies for $8-10/month with a membership. At that price, I am not interested in renting.. However, their site also said they sell movies without membership.. I just can't find any titles that have a "buy" button on them. They only say "rent."
I like their selection...can't see me renting anymore, tho..especially at that price point..I would want some of these for my collection.....will wait to see how much they charge to buy these....

If you click the word "BUY" up beside their logo, you can see what they're selling. Prices seem about average, but their pre-order on the 3D special edition of SEPTEMBER STORM at $14.99 is good deal. Not sure if shipping would kill it though.

They are splitting the rental from the retail. They are no longer accepting new rental memberships and moving it to a different, gated site.
The important part, and reason I posted the announcement, is that they are starting their own label to release titles on BD that haven't been released. The first batch of BD releases will be announced in March.
No details yet. Hoping it's similar to Twilight Time.

Anybody know if ClassicFlix tends to reduce the price of their titles over time? Logic would say yes but I'm looking at Noose Hangs High (Abbott & Costello) and would like to upgrade my dvd. But $21.99 (@Amazon) is a bit much for me and I was hoping for something closer to $15. Just curious, not trying to be cheap, but judging how much demand there is for their titles.

I've been a member off and on for several years, and recently found to my dismay that they eliminated my account while I was taking a break. Probably because I gave 'em a lot of grief over their general ineptitude and the fact that after screwing up and not sending me any dvd's they always refused to refund my money!

I've seen one of the dvds - Another Man's Poison starring Bette Davis and Gary Merrill. Looks great. The dvd was made from a very clean print of the film and the company even took the time to add subtitles. A nice surprise, considering how unbelievably bad the rental service was.

So their rental business is winding down? I'd wanted to try it since the early days (mostly for MOD's, which I can't bring myself to buy), but guess that moment has passed. I wonder if you can get these through interlibrary loan?

New release for May 29: THE MAN WHO WATCHED TRAINS GO BY (1952). Not familiar with it, but seems interesting as a "technicolor noir".

But when a French police detective shows up at his firm to inspect the books, Popinga’s unremarkable existence is instantly altered, and he soon finds himself on the way to Paris with a suitcase of cash, on the run from the law and entranced by a strange and beautiful woman.
Based on the 1938 novel by Georges Simenon—the author who created fictional sleuth Jules Maigret, and whose books like The Man on the Eiffel Tower and The Brothers Rico were also adapted for the big screen—The Man Who Watched Trains Go By casts beloved Warner Bros. character actor Claude Rains (Mr. Skeffington) as the meek Popinga. This restoration was actually undertaken by Bob Furmanek and company at the 3D Film Archive, their first 2D project, I believe. These folks are just class, all around. Their Kickstarter only requested $7,500. They received nearly $33,000. Shows how passionate people really are about saving these old shows, particularly ones like this that have been ruined in the public domain trenches for far too long.

I'm hopeful that they'll continue in this vein, mixing 3D and 2D restorations. There are a LOT of films still languishing in the public domain for which workable elements still survive.

Just got an eblast this afternoon about several ClassicFlix titles about to go OOP. I doubt these will be seen again unless Kino takes a shine; no classics, but there’s some good stuff in the CF catalog:
Ten titles that ClassicFlix licensed from MGM in 2017 will not be renewed and are now out of print. We do, however, have a limited time to sell off all the remaining stock.
Our yearly Anniversary Sale begins next week and all titles listed below will be discounted. Depending on how many units are left, we may have a last clearance sale down the road specifically for MGM titles.
The 10 titles are:
Stock on each title varies, but Blu-ray's for The Noose Hangs High and the John Alton Film Collection are the lowest and likely won't last long. DVDs for Alton, Killer & Steps are already gone.
Raw Deal:
Good news regarding Raw Deal (1948) as we were able to renew our agreement on this essential film noir.
Currently only available in the John Alton Film Noir Collection, we will release it at a later date either as a bare bones stand alone or as a re-press of our out of print special edition.
Regarding a possible re-press, like special editions for T-Men (1947) and He Walked by Night, we had originally expected to replicate 5,000 units on Raw Deal back in 2018, but we only pressed 2,500. We did not expect to repress the special edition due to customer demand and a limited license window. Now that it has been renewed, we may bring back between 500-1000 units which should carry us through to the end of the license period.
