Arrow (S5E08) -- "Invasion/100th episode" -- Crossover Part 3 -- 11/30/16

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 30

ARROW

"Invasion!" - (8:00:00-9:00:40 p.m. ET) (TV-14, LV) (HDTV)

ARROW CELEBRATES 100 EPISODES; THE EPIC SUPERHERO CROSSOVER CONTINUES - Oliver (Stephen Amell) wakes up to a life where he never got on The Queen's Gambit. Robert (guest star Jamey Sheridan) and Moira Queen (guest star Susanna Thompson) are alive and well. Laurel (guest star Katie Cassidy) is his loving fiancée and their wedding is imminent. Everything seems perfect, but Oliver starts to notice small imperfections that make him question this new reality. Meanwhile, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and the recruits take on a new threat with help from The Flash (guest star Grant Gustin) and Supergirl (guest star Melissa Benoist). James Bamford directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti and written by Marc Guggenheim & Wendy Mericle (#508). Original airdate 11/30/2016.

Episode 8 of 23

Arrow's ratings have been down all year. I'm sure tonight's episode will give them a huge boost.

Besides the more-or-less cameos by Flash and Supergirl this wasn't much of a cross-over. It was basically a fantasy episode of Arrow, especially given that Ray and Sara were originally Arrow cast members.

Re: Arrow (S5E08) -- "Invasion/100th episode" -- Crossover Part 3 -- 11/30/16

Yeah I had similar thoughts. It didn't feel like much of a follow up to last night. It felt more like a It's a Wonderful Life fantasy episode of Arrow. Gustin and Benoist were hardly in it.

It was a good Arrow episode. I did enjoy seeing Oliver reflect on many aspects of his life. Seeing Diggle as the alternate universe Green Arrow was interesting. However it wasn't really a true follow up to The Flash. I have a feeling this episode was conceived differently as the 100th episode and the crossover aspect was sort of shoehorned in when they decided to do it.

I know for Arrow it's hard to shoehorn in so many characters for this crossover since Arrow's cast is already quite large.

I did at their escape attempt from the Dominators mother ship. And how exactly did they plan to control that ship before Nate came to the rescue?

Yeah while it was light on crossover, it was a love song for Arrow fans who have been there since the beginning. The fight at the end with Deathstroke, Meryln and Dark was awesome.

Man, what a stutter to this epic four episode arc, which started off with a bit of a lame introduction in Supergirl.

May sound like just complaining, but yeah, this really just felt very loosely planned crossover.

I think they just needed to make sure everything worked logistically. Coordinating that many actors from 4 shows is rough. Also, the are probably using a lot of the budget on the final episode. Not to mention, you can't have an Arrow episode (especially it's milestone 100th) where The Flash and a bunch of other characters are the leads. Each episodes needs to be able to service its respected show, and not make alienate a fan who only watches one show. Tonight's Legends will focus on them, and I'm sure will deliver a good finale.

I wonder how this will worked on home video releases. Will all of the episodes be included? As a bonus?

Despite being a good episode of Arrow, as a follow-up to The Flash it wasn't very good. I think tonight's LoT will knock it out of the park, though.

Last year's seasonal sets included the crossover episodes from the other DC shows. So this Arrow S4 Blu-ray had the Flash episode included and vice-versa.

I thought this was probably the single best episode of Arrow we've gotten in some time. It didn't really crossover that much but touched upon the show's entire run in a fun manner. The battle scene with all the villains was well done.

Anyone else wish they had kept Laurel around and killed off Thea?

Re: Arrow (S5E08) -- "Invasion/100th episode" -- Crossover Part 3 -- 11/30/16

I liked this episode. I know some are saying it didn't tie into the invasion but I thought it was still done in a way that makes sense even though I thought Rory was taken too. While I really hate the using the trope of the path not taken in superhero stories I thought this was well done and it was nice to see some of the characters we haven't seen for awhile as well as all the Easter eggs.

And come on how great was the spaceship escape and being saved by the Waverider?

I was thinking it was a good episode of Arrow and not so good for the Crossover. It feels like things should connect more than they are.

Arrow got a huge ratings bump because of the crossover/milestone episode.

Unfortunately it didn't help Frequency though, everyone changed the channel.

Frequency is a dead show walking. I gave up on it last week. It's a show that would have done better on another network.

This might be the highest rated episode of Arrow ever.

Re: Arrow (S5E08) -- "Invasion/100th episode" -- Crossover Part 3 -- 11/30/16

Watched this one last night... so I guess I have to wait until Legends to see part 2 of the Crossover.

I dropped Arrow midway through season 2 and don't really miss it. Amell is great, and I'd love it if they could put Felicity in all the DC shows, but outside of those two, none of it really works for me. I guess Diggle is okay.

So this episode was...fine, I guess. Not much of a crossover though, as mentioned. At least I wasn't subjected to Tommy again.

Outside of this single night of airing, nobody gives a shit about milestone episodes especially in an era of binge watching. If they wanted "a very special episode of Arrow" for #100 they should have waited on the crossover and not tried to double dip.

Re: Arrow (S5E08) -- "Invasion/100th episode" -- Crossover Part 3 -- 11/30/16

I dunno. I liked this episode a lot. I know it killed the momentum built up The Flash episode, but I think they put it there to show the audience how changing the timeline can affect a person. Could it have had its own episode? Probably, but it seems to me that bringing the audience into the changing timeline uneasiness was a cool breaking of the fourth wall. Plus it was nice to see all those characters again and to think, look how far Arrow's come.

I think the producers were trying to sell Flash fans that no longer watch Arrow with this episode. That is why it had so many callbacks to the early Arrow years.

They are nearing the point where Oliver and Sara once dating has been retconned out.

Yeah it felt like a old comics "tie-in" issue to a big crossover event, only to barely a tie-in at all, but still a great issue.

Arrow has been markedly improved this season. This show was a wonderful callback for fans who've been here for the ride.

Agreed. Every time I catch an episode of Arrow (be it a tie-in, or an errant episode), I'm dumbfounded by how terrible and boring the characters and actors are, especially when compared to Flash and Supergirl.

Speaking of, as mentioned I quit Arrow long ago... but those sidekicks hanging out his lair? Holy shitballs were they terrible.
