Escape Plan 2: Hades (2018) -- S: Sylvester Stallone, Dave Bautista

EXCLUSIVE: Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films has green lit a sequel to their 2013 film Escape Plan, with Sylvester Stallone prepared to reprise the role he played in the original, this time in a supporting capacity. He starred in the original with Arnold Schwarzenegger, and it grossed $137 million worldwide.
EFO CEO co-founders Randall Emmett and George Furla put this one together and the company will sell foreign at AFM. Lionsgate Premiere will release domestically. Miles Chapman, who wrote the first one, is scripting the sequel. Emmett, Furla, Mark Canton, and Zack Schiller will all return to produce. Ted Fox, Mark Stewart, Barry Brooker, and Stan Wertlieb will executive produce. A major Chinese component will be involved in the financing of the sequel, due to its predecessor’s huge success in the region. Pre-production will begin January 15th and the film will shoot March 15 in Ohio and China.
EFO is in post on the Martin Scorsese-directed Silence; Amityville: The Awakening will be released January 6 by The Weinstein Company, and EFO recently wrapped principal photography on the John Travolta-starrer Gotti, from director Kevin Connolly. The Nicolas Cage-starrer Inconceivable is currently in production with director Jonathan Baker.

The first is actually a really fun film but I don't think a sequel is necessary. I wouldn't mind seeing Stallone and Schwarzenegger teaming up again in another project though.

Being Lionsgate Premiere, it's likely VOD and DTV.

The Chinese are co-financing quite a few U.S. releases.
This will probably get a big theatrical run in Asia, especially with Stallone's name attached. Even though the story says he's only a co-star.

Escape Plan doesn't even ring a bell for me. Weird that a movie with those 2 wouldn't have even been on my radar.

I actually didnt mind Escape Plan. It felt like a big budget version of those Christoper Lambert movies Fortress (the first is a guilty pleasure). One problem i did have is i guessed the location of the prison way before they showed it and felt sure i had seen the same gimmick in another movie.
I would be open to seeing a sequel to the movie, and actually enjoy a lot of Stallones movies.

Steven C. Miller posted on his FB that he would be directing this sequel.
http://www.tracking-board.com/sylves...ler-exclusive/
After working with Emmett/Furla/Oasis on three films, Steven C. Miller has been hired to direct the company’s Sylvester Stallone-starring sequel ESCAPE PLAN 2, the Tracking Board has exclusively learned.
Miller takes over the reins from Mikael Håfström, whose 2013 action-thriller grossed $137 million worldwide, with much of that haul coming from international audiences.
Miles Chapman wrote the first film and has returned to write the sequel, which will see Stallone reprise his role as security expert Ray Breslin.
Escape Plan 2 will be a Chinese co-production that will be distributed in China by Leomus Pictures. The company also released the first film in China, where it grossed nearly $41 million.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is rumored to be returning in some capacity, and though he does not have a deal yet, a representative for Beijing-based Leomus Pictures told the Hollywood Reporter on Feb. 1 that “Schwarzenegger’s return is still under discussion.” Leomus also added that Escape Plan 2 is expected to feature some Chinese story elements to deepen its local resonance.
EFO founders Randall Emmett and George Furla will return to produce alongside Mark Canton, Zack Schiller, Robbie Brenner and Leomus CEO Jie Qiu. Ted Fox, Mark Stewart, Barry Brooker and Stan Wertlieb will serve as executive producers along with The Fyzz Facility’s Wayne Marc Godfrey and Robert Jones.
Miller previously directed three Bruce Willis movies for EFO — Extraction, Marauders and the upcoming First Kill. With his most recent film, the Nicolas Cage-John Cusack thriller Arsenal, the prolific young filmmaker continues to churn out genre films featuring high production values on a low budget and a tight schedule. He’s represented by UTA, Aperture Entertainment and attorney Wayne Alexander.
EFO’s upcoming slate includes Amityville: The Awakening on June 30, Kevin Connolly’s The Life and Death of John Gotti starring John Travolta, and the Nicolas Cage movie Inconceivable.

I thought EP was decent. Nothing spectacular but not a piece of junk either. Liked the premise and liked the "escape" stuff as well.

Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista will team up with Sylvester Stallone for Escape Plan 2, the sequel to 2013 prison-break thriller.
Steven C. Miller, who helmed action thrillers such as Marauders and Extraction, is directing the project, which will now be a China-U.S. co-production via Beijing-based Leomus Pictures and Emmett/Furla/Oasis. Mark Canton is also among the producers.
The pairing of Bautista and Stallone is line with having two high-wattage action stars fight against, then team up with, each other. In the 2013 movie, Stallone, playing a prison security specialist who finds himself in a near-impenetrable facility, partnered up with his 1980s action rival Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Plot details are being kept in solitary confinement. The $20 million production is tunneling for spring start in Atlanta.
Bautista is the former MMA champion who segued into acting, slamming through to star status with a scene-stealing performance as Drax the Destroyer in Guardians. He reprises the role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which opens in May.
He had a turn as a villain in James Bond movie Spectre and recently wrapped a role opposite Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2049. He is currently shooting Avengers: Infinity War and will then segue to Hotel Artemis, a sci-fi thriller with Jodie Foster.
Bautista is repped by Gersh and Jonathan Meisner Management.

"Plot details are being kept in solitary confinement." Keeping us in suspense.
All kidding aside, the first was sort of fun. Looks like their dialing back on the budget, but will watch this regardless.
