Black Jeopardy was actually funny.
Next new ep is November 5th and we get host Benedict Cumberbatch and musical guest Solange.

Some funny bits in there. Hanks rarely disappoints.
Also liked both Lady Gaga songs.

Another great Hanks episode.
I always wonder... Who makes some SNL episodes so good and some so bad? Does someone like Hanks bring his own ideas and maybe a writer or two? Do they save the best sketches for certain guests? Or do the actors just elevate the same material that would otherwise bomb with the wrong host?

Though even he couldn't save whatever the fuck that CBS Transparent-clone sitcom bit was supposed to be. My take was that they were pointing out that any 30 minute show is considered a comedy for Emmy consideration, but there was absolutely nothing funny about the prerecorded bit, not even in the absurdist sense.

Agreed! Her new album (and new direction) definitely takes a few repeat listens to grow on you but it's great!
Kudos to her for taking us someplace new (who knew rocknroll could sound so retro?)
and as she recently pointed out, the difference between her and Madonna is 'she writes her own stuff'
Truly talented woman.

Anyway, it was a 100X better than last week's episode.

One of the things that makes Hanks great is that he goes all-in with the silliness, which is a great counter-point to the gravitas he has as a dramatic actor, so there is an added layer to the performance and comedy.
If Adam Sandler turned up as David S. Pumpkins, it would just be stupid is as stupid does, but there is something extra to seeing Hanks give something so pointless and ridiculous his all.
