Behold: The dumbest Simpsons thread you will ever read

Check this out. It's a thread from a Simpsons fan site. Mind you, these are people who are big enough fans of the show that they joined a message board to discuss it.

http://www.nohomers.net/showthread.p...-t-Get/page24&

It's a thread about jokes they didn't get. There are commenters who:
-Don't know what "Legalize it" means
-Don't know what the word "narc" means
-There's a poster who doesn't know who Joan Van Ark is and another who has never heard of Coco Chanel
-Somebody whose never heard of the Cathy comic strip
-A dude who doesn't know what "goyum" means

It goes on for 50 pages. A lot of it is foreigners, but that's really no excuse. There's a guy who asks who Stalin is! There's a guy who doesn't know what a Stradivarius is!

I'm surprised they like the show.

EDIT: the very last two posts, all the way on page 50 are priceless.

Here's another good one: "In the George Bush episode why does the Russian guy have a red mark on his head?"

EDIT AGAIN: Okay I fixed up all the errors and format.

Re: Behold: The dumbest Simpsons thread you will ever read

I don't know who Joan Van Ark is (opposed to Joan of Arc), I can see how a younger person would have never heard of the Cathy (I assume that's what you meant) comic strip, and I don't know what goyum means.

Stradivarius? I assume you didn't mean this either - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratovarius

I don't see the big deal with most of these things, especially the pop culture type ones that are largely era dependent. Ironic since it seems like you managed to butcher some of them yourself

Sorry , I'm working with my phone and formatting and spell checking everything is difficult. I'll clean it up when I get a chance at home. Wanted to share.

Was not surprised to look to the left and see Mabuse. Glad these folks don't watch Archer since they don't get The Simpsons.

Also, the thread is from 2003, way before JFGI became a thing. I'm not sure what's worse - them or a guy who seeks out 13 year old simpsons threads and craps on the people for not knowing what stuff was.

Yes, but take a look at the last two or three posts on the last page of the thread.

It wasn't as prevalent as it is today. Hell I still think in 2003 you could have an excite.com or altavista.com e-mail address.

Who's the DVD Talker who used to post in the Modern Family threads asking us to explain jokes? It could just be a language/country barrier thing.

Re: Behold: The dumbest Simpsons thread you will ever read

Even after the "corrections" in the original post, I don't see the big deal. Is it really crazy that someone wouldn't know about a newspaper print comic strip? Heck, i had to look up goyum and don't know where I would have come across that term. Narc? Do kids today still talk about "narcing" on someone? And being a foreigner seems like a completely legitimate excuse for not getting a lot of jokes - that's why american comedies usually aren't the big monster hits internationally since humor doesn't always translate.

Not knowing Stalin might be the only one that is of any importance there to me.

Seconded. You are right. This thread might be the dumbest Simpsons thread yet.

Re: Behold: The dumbest Simpsons thread you will ever read

I suspect many of the jokes aimed at adults found in the Simpsons during the 90s flew over the heads of the children watching. Remember that in the beginning the show was more family oriented. It was only a few seasons in when they stopped pretending to be anything but a comedy show for adults.

My kids watch the Simpsons (and basically only the Simpsons) but they must not get half the references

Making fun of people for not knowing something is incredibly rude and mean spirited. No surprise who the OP is here. Yes, this is the dumbest Simpsons thread I've ever read.

Cathy was (is?) a daily comic strip about a sad sack woman who lived alone.

Her funniest moment was a guest appearance in "Liberty Meadows" where one of the animals (Dean the pig, a former fraternity mascot) met her in a bar.
