Secrets and Lies (ABC) -- Season 2 Thread -- S: Ealy, Lewis, O'Quinn -- 9/25/16

Secrets and Lies
screen grab

JULIETTE LEWIS AND MICHAEL EALY STAR IN ABC'S EXPLOSIVE DRAMA 'SECRETS AND LIES,' WHICH RETURNS FOR ITS SECOND SEASON, SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25

Adam Arkin Directs the Season Premiere Episode, 'The Fall'

The explosive power of people's secrets and lies will once again take center stage in season two of ABC's hit drama "Secrets and Lies," focusing on a brand-new case and a new suspect in another 10-episode thrilling who-done-it, premiering on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 (9:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on the ABC Television Network.

Eric Warner (Michael Ealy) is at the top of his game. Smart, well-educated and hardworking, he is the heir apparent to his family private equity firm in Charlotte, North Carolina. Newly married to "the one" and walking on air, Eric is flush with success, but all of that is about to change.

In the premiere, "The Fall," Eric is attending a party to honor his dad passing over the reins of the company to him, when suddenly tragedy strikes. Eric's smart and beautiful wife, Kate Warner (Jordana Brewster), is found dead, and life, as he knows it, is over. Overseeing the case is the unflappable and formidable Detective Andrea Cornell (Juliette Lewis). She immediately puts the grieving husband in her crosshairs, but, as always, secrets seep out about this seemingly perfect family and turn their world upside down. As Eric battles to prove his innocence and save the family's company, he discovers that his beloved Kate and the rest of his family are not who they appeared to be.

Detective Cornell also has cast a wide net over the whole Warner family. There's Eric's charming and lovable finance-magnate father, John Warner (Terry O'Quinn). The father of three children, he built his private equity firm on a model of honesty and morality, but Kate's death puts his succession plans on hold, and he may find that his stunning business achievement is really a house of cards.

Amanda Warner Young (Mekia Cox), Eric's sister, married to a prominent Charlotte surgeon, is working as a criminal attorney for the Public Defender's office. She is well versed in what happens when Detective Cornell targets someone and is fiercely protective of Eric.

Patrick Warner (Charlie Barnett) is the youngest child in the family, working side-by-side with his father and brother as an analyst in the company. He is a lovable loser - and a functioning alcoholic - who has had to live in Eric's shadow all of his life.

Danny (Kenny Johnson) is not a part of the Warner family, but he is complicating Eric's already complex life. Burdened with his own secrets and lies, Danny, who is also a possible suspect in Kate's death, is on a mission, and he will stop at nothing until it is complete.

The Warner family members aren't the only ones hiding secrets. Detective Cornell must deal with her own dark revelations.

Who ultimately killed Kate? And what will people do to keep their most intimate, devastating indiscretions from ruining their lives? How well do you know your spouse? Father? Sister? Brother? The emotional rollercoaster ride is about to begin for Eric Warner. Did he or didn't he kill Kate?

ABC.com's digital companion series, "Cornell: Confidential" offers fans an intimate look into the investigation; often teasing additional clues, scenes and jaw dropping cliffhangers. "Cornell: Confidential" will be available each week immediately following the East Coast broadcast of "Secrets and Lies"on ABC.com/SecretsandLies and the ABC app.

This season's cast includes Juliette Lewis ("August Osage County") as Detective Andrea Cornell, Michael Ealy ("The Perfect Guy," "Think Like A Man," "About Last Night") as Eric Warner, Terry O'Quinn ("Lost," Amazon's upcoming series "The Patriot") as John Warner, Mekia Cox ("Crazy Stupid Love") as Amanda Warner, Charlie Barnett ("Chicago Fire," "Chicago P.D.") as Patrick Warner, Kenny Johnson ("The Shield," "Sons of Anarchy") as Danny and Jordana Brewster ("Furious 7") as Kate Warner.

Barbie Kligman ("Private Practice") developed the mystery thriller, which is based on the original Australian series "Secrets & Lies," created by Stephen Irwin.

Executive producers are Kligman for Avenue K Productions, Aaron Kaplan "American Housewife," "Life and Pieces," and "Divorce" (upcoming HBO series starring Sarah Jessica Parker) for Kapital Entertainment, Tracey Robertson and Nathan Mayfield for Hoodlum Entertainment. "Secrets and Lies" is produced by ABC Studios.

Guest stars in "The Fall" are AnnaLynne McCord as Melanie Warner, Eric Winter as Neil Oliver, Edwin Hodge as Dr. Greg Young, McNally Sagal as May Stone and Graham Phillips as Liam Connors.

"The Fall" was written by Barbie Kligman and directed by Adam Arkin.

10 episode 2nd season

This was originally supposed to air in the Spring, but was postponed because of the lack of timeslots.

Completely new storyline. Only Juliette Lewis is returning from season 1.

Pretty good start.

No obvious suspect so far. Thought they did a good job casting for the 2nd season. Ealy is always solid and he had good chemistry with Jordana in their flashback scenes. I'm sure Kate will have some another dirty dark secret come into light aside from the mystery baby reveal.

Juliette Lewis...uhhh you either like her or hate her. She played Cornell the same way as season 1. Really no emotion and with that scowl on her face.

This is only a 10 episode season, so this isn't a huge time commitment even though Sundays will be busy soon.

Re: Secrets and Lies (ABC) -- Season 2 Thread -- S: Ealy, Lewis, O'Quinn -- 9/25/16

Episode 2 last night had some interesting reveals, especially the blackmail plot against Ealy's character.

Now I wonder who the hell Kenny Johnson's character is supposed to be?

They did make a slight reference to season 1 when Warner's sister said that Cornell sent an innocent man to prison previously.

I know Jordana Brewster filmed this show over a year ago, but kind of funny that she has 2 shows on 2 different networks running simultaneously.

Any news on renewal? I thought this was a pretty good season, and of course there's that last 10 seconds...

Watched the season finale yesterday. Honestly didn't see that ending coming. I'd say this season was better than the first.

Re: Secrets and Lies (ABC) -- Season 2 Thread -- S: Ealy, Lewis, O'Quinn -- 9/25/16

Just finished the 2 hour finale.

It was a good season and a compelling case overall with many different layers. Michael Ealy was really good.

The sister being the killer wasn't a huge surprise. I figured manslaughter was probably the likely scenario as opposed to pre-meditated murder. And the father being a bigamist was a 180 degree curveball to the overall plot.

The season case got resolved, but WTF with that ending? I vaguely recalled that Cornell had a druggie daughter, but what the heck with ending the season like that?

Re: Secrets and Lies (ABC) -- Season 2 Thread -- S: Ealy, Lewis, O'Quinn -- 9/25/16

Just checked on ABC.com and there is a 32 months later epilogue to what happened with Ealy's character:

He ended up taking his sister's baby and his brother got released from prison. This should have been how the season ended. It ended with closure. I have a feeling this was a deleted scene and they decided to go with the cliffhanger instead.

Yeah, that ending was weird. Were they that confident that they'd get another season to continue? I would have ended it on a good note (maybe having that epilogue content actually in the show??), assuming they may not see another season.
