Could a Godfather remake work?
So I just watched the Godfather Saga (1 and 2 and extra scenes chronological) and it was awesome.
I still believe that The Godfather is one of the Top 5 movies of all time
But it does show it's age a bit, and the last 1/4 of The Godfather seems rushed.
So, I was thinking of series like Hannibal and Bates Motel and I started wondering if a long form (probably TV) remake of the Godfather could work.
A straight up movie remake would be a disaster.
A series version of the Godfather would likely be a disaster as well.
But if you used the Godfather 2 structure in a series, that showed much more of Young Vito while also fleshing out the Godfather arc itself over several seasons I think it would have a chance to be pretty compelling TV.
The characters are well defined, and it would be open to adding a lot more depth to them and highlighting additional new parts of the story as it went along.
Like Hannibal and Bates Motel you could find interesting ways to get to the main "events" of the movies, and you could even change a few things to keep it fresh.
It would certainly be a world I could invest more time in, despite all the mob things that have been done since.

If you had asked several years ago about a young Norman Bates, you would have gotten a bunch of "no's" too. And that is one of the best shows on TV...so I say, if done right, it could work. Just depends. (quality of actors and story line is why it would/wouldn't work)

I know I'll catch shit for saying this but honestly the films are somewhat overrated in my opinion. They're very good but something about them has just never made them stick with me and they have a pretty low rewatch value to me. I've always been more of a Goodfellas and to a lesser extent Casino fan. A series done in a similar fashion to something like The Sopranos could be interesting, but then that series already exists and already told a great version of a mafia story.

No, but a Godfather sequel that examined stuff we've not seen yet, could. But no one but FFC should do it, and I'm pretty sure he has zero interest in another movie. I do know the sequels they tried to do as novels (The Godfather Returns and The Godfather's Revenge were AWFUL).

I could envision a pretty good Godfather television series if the right people were involved and it was on the right network (FX, HBO, Netflix, etc).
Only interested in a movie remake if it's a gender-swap starring Melissa McCarthy as Vita Corleone.

No, but for a reason. Every good idea that was first done in The Godfather has been done to death by now.

I can't imagine a film remake of it could be any better. A show... that could work out cuz apparently they did wonders w/ the Hannibal Lecter show. That show is insanely refined... like no network show should even hit that caliber of quality.
I'd imagine we'd get flashbacks to Michael's time in the war. To juxtapose something happening in the episode in terms of his growth or experience. The growth to Michael's empire itself would be an amazing thing to see. It already was in the film but the minutiae of it could be very fascinating to see it work out. The second film's plot.... would be interesting to see expanded. Especially Vito's part in it.
The third film from this could benefit greatly from it. Cuz... 3 wasn't good. And it didn't have a great production to get to where it went.
I'd be down for someone like Bryan Fuller behind a Godfather show.

Yes - it could work to destroy the mystique of the original and put a black mark on Paramount for mortgaging one of their most prestigious properties.
