Middle Earth Collection - 10/4/16

Looks like we are finally getting a Middle Earth Collection with all six films. Not too many details yet, but it looks like two different editions.

Theatrical collection

https://www.amazon.com/The-Middle-ea...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

and an Ultimate Collectors Edition

https://www.amazon.com/The-Middle-ea...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Hopefully the Ultimate edition comes down from it's $799 price before release

I wonder if that version will also come with the extended and/or 3D versions.

For $799 it better come with a ring that allows me to control my minions and vanquish my enemies.

I wonder who this is for exactly. Anyone with an interest in these films already has the trilogies with the extensive extras.

This seems like it's for the die hard fans only. And really, how many die hard Hobbit trilogy fans can there be?

$799

I'd be interested in a set of the extended Hobbit films because I have the trilogy split between digital and BD and between extended and theatrical. But I already have way too many copies of LOTR.

Just got a blu ray player in May and haven't upgraded LOTR yet. Haven't seen the Hobbit films yet and was hoping for a low price to blind buy before the end of the year. Depending on price might jump on this.

Does it also include something like a collectible statue/bust/bookmark for each film? For $800 it should include something other than just the movies and tons of extras (if not statues, maybe exclusive making of/poster books, a signed copy of a script, something, anything).

From the Amazon link

The Limited Collector's Edition includes 30 discs featuring all six Middle-earth films in their extended edition forms, housed in six stunning faux leather books and a collectible Hobbit-style wood shelf. The one-of-a-kind wood shelf is crafted from solid wood with design selected by Peter Jackson.
- In addition to the extended edition release of every film, the collection also includes all previously released bonus content from both the theatrical and extended editions.
- Exclusive premiums designed for the collection include: · Spectacular 100-page sketch-style book with replica The Red Book of Westmarch, filled with original film sketches and new artwork · Original reproductions of exquisite watercolor paintings by acclaimed conceptual artists Alan Lee and John Howe, framable and wall-ready

30 discs? Aren't the extended editions 4 discs each? That would equal 24. I know the LOTR blu-ray set has that extra doc, but I can't remember how many discs it's on.

Re: Middle Earth Collection - 10/4/16

I'm wondering if it's going to have the 3D versions. The movies alone were 2 discs each. $799? In for 4.

Yeah, that confirms the 3D versions then. I have the 3D extended box set and the extended versions of the original films and I have 30 discs between both sets. 15 discs for each set.

I really like the Argonath statuettes I got with FOTR. That's the only LE I got from that series.

Shizawn...thanks for that, should have scrolled down to check out the description. Maybe I will get lucky and it becomes a BF week lightning deal, otherwise there is no way in heck I can afford to pick this up.

Re: Middle Earth Collection - 10/4/16

So it sounds similar to that big Harry Potter chest of drawers thing that was released a few years ago. When I buy my Blu-Ray boxed sets I don't need a piece of furniture to go along with it.

That being said, I'm sure when photos of this thing get released it'll be absolutely beautiful and I'll be jealous of anyone who buys it!

Or just wait until there's an Amazon Lightning deal for it. That's how I picked up the HP Wizard's Collection box for $154.99.

The only thing I can figure is that it's to celebrate the 15th anniversary of FOTR. Having the theatrical and EE extras is tempting, but not enough to make me want to buy it again.

I chucked everything LOTR: my theatrical and EE DVDs, and just bought the EE sets of both trilogies on BD. That's enough for me until Jackson decided to go Ridley Scott. Some of the CGI could definitely use some polishing if he wants to go back to these.

I do kind of regret the amount of space some of my big boxed sets take up. As far as HP, while that set was overkill, I would like the Hogwarts Collection for an altogether more reasonable price.

Disney did the same thing with POTC. Can't you just have a set with the four film and digital HD? I don't need treasure chests and such!

The LOTR extended set had 2 movie BD's and 3 extras DVD's per film. The Hobbit extended 3D set had 2 movie BD3D's, 1 movie BD (2D), and 2 extras BD's per film.

That's 30 discs, so it sounds like this set is a combination of the existing discs, and there is no new disc-based material.

Re: Middle Earth Collection - 10/4/16

I also just noticed that Amazon no longer has the 3D extended box set. Only third party sellers. Glad I got it during Christmas. Kinda weird they would be no longer selling their own exclusive.

It's been unavailable for a while now. I was pondering on getting it, then it disappeared. I'm guessing one of these monster sets will have them.

So I guess these things don't have any new disc-based features? I know there are still quite a few deleted scenes that haven't been seen outside of brief shots in trailers, and also some descriptions.

Well there hasn't been an official press release yet. So far, everything has been based off the Amazon listings and their descriptions.

That price is just dumb no matter how you look at it. I need to get the two Hobbit sequels to complete my collection but the individual extended Blu-rays will be fine.

Why waste so much space in the set with all of those extra dvds, if it does indeed include those 3 extra dvds from each extended set? Just put all of that crap on a blu ray or even better, try and put as many of those special features in HD.

Most of those special features were very likely edited/produced in SD and the non film portions likely filmed on video at the time which def would've been sd so HD versions I doubt are even possible- I agree about putting then on blurays though to save space though

For that price, I'd better get a night with Arwen and Tauriel in full dress or something.

$799? The box better be made of Mithril for that price.

Re: Middle Earth Collection - 10/4/16

I'd have to seriously consider whether or not I would even watch these films again if they paid ME $799 to do so.

Buying them for that much? Christ.
