Geeking Out (AMC) - talk show with Kevin Smith & Greg Grunberg

Kevin Smith has a new show on AMC called "Geeking Out" with Greg Grunberg as his co-host.

Watched the first one, billed as a Comic-Con special. It was mostly puff-piece promotions of various movie and TV projects, but the Damon stuff was OK. Plus I could FF through the movie trailers, so it only took about 15 minutes to watch so the investment was minimal.

It was far more inconsequential than I expected it to be, though it's harmless and easy enough to watch if you know how to approach it.

I love Kevin Smith's movies, and I appreciate that he is a real geek and was a geek before it was cool to be one in pop culture. But he just utterly annoys me now for some reason, maybe it's the hockey shirts even though I am a huge NHL fan.

I thought Grunberg was the annoying guy in this. This was just a preview and it premieres in August as a series.

Anthony Anderson who is in almost every TV show now did a Comic Con special on Spike similar to this.

Well, there's Kevin Smith, and then there's "Kevin Smith" the character (I don't think that's intentional, but it just sort of happens).

This show is pretty much unwatchable, but tonight's bit with Adam Savage showing off his prop collection and building Rey's staff from The Force Awakens was awesome.

More stuff like this and less bullshit rambling between Smith and Grunberg, and boring assed guests who have nothing to offer.

I haven'watched this yet but I still do like Kevin Smith as a personality. I like Comic Book Men and his YouTube channel is pretty good. I'll probably watch this at some point.

Kevin Smith seems to have become a polarizing figure. I don't mind his schtick. Unlike most of the Hollywood types, he didn't start faking an interest in stuff like comic books for a gig.

The show is mostly a harmless diversion so Smith can show off his rolodex of Hollywood connections. It's perfect for the summer.

One thing I kind of like about Smith is that he doesn't seem to give a fuck if people like his films or not. He kind of just does what he wants because he wants to. Sometimes I think his stoner shtick can get old but a lot of times I like his views on films and particularly on comic related films or shows.

Re: Geeking Out (AMC) - talk show with Kevin Smith & Greg Grunberg

You know what bothers me about this show...not the people in it, nor the content, but the way it's shot. I HATE shows where the host is talking to the audience/camera, but the angle is from the side, so it looks like they're talking to another person in the room. Then they'll cut back to the "regular' angle, then back to the side angle...it drives me crazy. This isn't the only show on TV that does this, but it makes me want to turn it off.

I know, I know...of all the things to complain about.
