Youth (2015, D: Paolo Sorrentino, S: Caine, Keitel)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3312830/

Storyline

Fred and Mick, two old friends, are on vacation in an elegant hotel at the foot of the Alps. Fred, a composer and conductor, is now retired. Mick, a film director, is still working. They look with curiosity and tenderness on their children's confused lives, Mick's enthusiastic young writers, and the other hotel guests. While Mick scrambles to finish the screenplay for what he imagines will be his last important film, Fred has no intention of resuming his musical career. But someone wants at all costs to hear him conduct again. Written by Anonymous Love Revolver

Wanted to start a thread on this movie since one didn't exist.

This was an exquisite film that should be seen by more...

my short/concise review:
wow! did i love this one. so beautifully shot, so well acted. emotional, surreal, yet grounded in reality. just amazing. i haven't been this moved in quite awhile. loved everything about this journey. Caine and Keitel were in top form. can't recommend this one highly enough.

It might be a little slow and eccentric for the average viewer.

Spoiler:
That girl naked in the pool. Wow!

Saw an interview with Sorrentino and the guys weren't told so he could film their reaction.

I enjoyed it, but it's definitely not something an average viewer would like.

Although still Felliniesque, at least he tried to do his own thing here... unlike The Great Beauty - which was good, but borrowed far too much from La Dolce Vita. In Il Divo, he was definitely channelling Scorcese, but I found the film too hard to follow and the editing and camera work too busy.

Sorrentino really does paint a beautiful picture with fantastic cinematography and aesthetics in all his films. I look forward to his next film.
