Murder on the Orient Express (2017, D: Branagh) S: Branagh, Pfeiffer, Ridley, etc.
Kenneth Branagh will direct a remake of Murder on the Orient Express and star as Poirot, the detective investigating the murder of an American aboard a train where many passengers are suspects. Michael Green adapted the screenplay from the Agatha Christie novel.

Angelina Jolie is in early talks to board Fox’s remake of “Murder on the Orient Express.”
Fellow actor/director Kenneth Branagh is helming the film, in addition to starring as Hercule Poirot. The producers are Branagh, Ridley Scott, Simon Kinberg and Mark Gordon. Michael Schaefer and Aditya Sood will also produce in some capacity.

Oh no! Another gender reversal! We need Guru Askew in here to tear down Sidney Lumet's version in an effort to make this sound great.
In all honesty this sounds like a great idea, and befitting of Branagh. His career went off the rails. This would be more in line with his roots. I wonder if they will do it period or bring it up to date.

This sounds like a great vehicle for Branagh. I can definitely see him as Poirot.

Isn't the ending of this movie ("identity of the murderer") so ingrained in popular culture that nobody would really be all that surprised? Then again I grew up watching (and reading) as much Agatha Christie as I could before I realized she often wrote the same novel dozens of times.

Fleming had noticeably more variety than Christie, although it was the movies that really mutated his plots into formula.

They could also put a new spin on the ending, I suppose.
I'm thinking about the last film Branagh remade - Sleuth. I think he changed that ending up a bit, iirc.

Yeah, the twist was that Michael Caine plays the Laurence Olivier role and Jude Law (who had previously played the Caine part in Alfie remake) plays the Michael Caine part.

They could really assemble a nice all-star cast for this. PBS' Poirot series did Murder on the Orient Express a few years back and Jessica Chastain, David Morrissey, and Toby Jones were all in it.
