Looks and sounds way too much like the movie Burnt.

Given the lack of promotion, I don't think AMC has much faith in this show.

Re: Feed the Beast (AMC) -- Season 1 Thread -- S: Schwimmer, Sturgess

They promote the show a lot on the network.

It's just a personal thing, but I've grown really tired of the dramatic device that the lead has a substance abuse problem (alcohol or drugs) and is always teetering on the edge. You just know there's going to be that situation where everything depends on that character and (s)he's just going to blow it. I had to look past that with "The Knick" (I like Clive Owen, but they exploited the hell out of the character's addiction in that one), but I didn't bother with "Vinyl". Now we have this series where one character has a coke addiction and apparently the other has a drinking problem. Swell.

So I was kind of sour on this to start and then I read a review linked on my home page ( I forget the source) and it was hugely negative. That alone wouldn't be enough, but their description of the plot (including the son who chooses not to speak) just seemed like one eye-roll after another.

I made it through about 40 minutes and then deleted. I didn't have much interest in the plot to begin with and it was very dull. Didn't like any of the characters or cared about their situation.

When I saw commercials for this, the acting of the leads seemed so bad that I thought it was like a quasi-reality show where this restaurant was real and they'd serve fans of Friends and whatever the other guy has been in

Just a reminder for anyone who wants to continue to watch this (not many I assume)... It moves to it's regular Tuesday night time slot tonight, 6/7.

Re: Feed the Beast (AMC) -- Season 1 Thread -- S: Schwimmer, Sturgess

I just watched the first two episodes of this and I kind of liked it. It was nothing special, but it held my attention in an offbeat kind of way. There were shades of comedy but it definitely plays more towards drama, which I like. I think once the restaurant is open, the real drama and hijinks of the show will begin. I think the restaurant will become a hangout for a number of seedy characters this show is likely to introduce.

Why does it look like Sturgess always skips the hair and makeup sessions before filming starts for a movie or TV series?

I think they've thrown up the first two episodes for free on VUDU.

Did anyone ride this one out? I let all the episodes build up on my dvr and am now finally getting around to it - started a bit slow but I'm on ep 5 and despite having A LOT of cliches, I'm enjoying it well enough that I'm going to finish it.

Re: Feed the Beast (AMC) -- Season 1 Thread -- S: Schwimmer, Sturgess

I find it filled with eye-rolling twists and turns, -just ridiculous choices the characters make, -yet I want to see where it goes. The finale is particularly frustrating since I doubt there'll be another season.

Did it have a conclusion or should I just delete it off the dvr?

Delete it.
I'm going to spoilerize my reasons just in case some of you haven't finished it...

Spoiler:
Thirio was blown up (by the main antagonist I believe) although we will never know. The entire (first) season revolved around the two of them starting up the restaurant... just to have it destroyed as a cliffhanger.
Suppose the show was renewed for a second season, what would the main plot be? The two of them trying to rebuild & reopen the restaurant? It'd be a repeat of season one.

After the mid-season break, the show totally derailed with Patrick being gay & in love with Dion. Felt like the writer's already ran out of ideas to keep up the momentum so they decided on cheap, generic drama full of cliches. The story line with Tommy being suspicious of Dion having had an affair with his dead wife was interesting but poorly executed. The cop (Sopranos Jackie Aprile) relentlessly chasing after Patrick just to suddenly change his mind & back off... then get murdered by Patrick was pointless & stupid.

Tommy's son TJ was the best part of the show as far as him being harassed in school & the relationship between him & his grandfather.

Fuck - it wasn't TV's best but I was hoping for one more season to help this show find an audience and maybe work out the kinks....oh well...and I agree - delete it.
