Hey, anyone know where I can find, or can anyone provide me with a review of this sony receiver (http://www.800.com/prod.asp?p=3283)? My brother wants to buy one, and I can't find a review of it on audioreview.com, so I don't know where else to turn. I've never owned a Sony so I can't really advise him anymore than that. He's looking for something around that price, so if you have a better idea, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

-BlasTech

Can't help you with the quality of that particular receiver but IIRC, most people here tend to say that you should stick with their DB and ES series if you are going to go with Sony. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Also I hope you realize that that receiver is only a Pro-Logic receiver that is DD 5.1 ready and does not itself decode DD 5.1 sound.

Save a little money, wait for a sale and by an ES receiver.

I concur, this is a step backwards if your brothers wants to get into DVD and 5.1 playback.

That receiver would be pretty useless for dvd since it's only 5.1 ready. I have the str-de835 and love it. People have bitched about it overheating, but I've never had any problems with it. You can find it for about $300 or less.

I have this as my second receiver. Got a special of $179 on it. I have the Sony STR-DB930 for my true home theatre.

The 345 isn't bad...but it is only 5.1 ready. I have a seperate component decoder hooked up to it and it works great. Its not the best receiver...I almost wish I would've waited a month or two and spent $300 for a slightly better model but this does get the job done for what I intended it to do...power a very small system in my bedroom.
