What was your first DVD, and when did you watch it last?
"Do the Right Thing" was my first buy in 1999, for 16.99 at Hollywood Video on Greenvilll in Dallas. I'm putting it in the player right now.

Just like with Blu-ray I didn't buy just one DVD. Some I remember buying (around spring/summer 1998) were Austin Powers, Dead Presidents, Boogie Nights (Snap Case) and a few more.
I have upgraded most of my first DVD purchases to Blu-ray and the ones I didn't I probably haven't watched in a couple of years.

I'm fairly certain my first DVD (or at least one of the first) was The Simpsons: The Complete First Season. Its probably been a number of years since I've watched it.

Terminator 2
It froze within the first 20 minutes into the movie. This defective disc was returned to the store for a refund. (They didn't have any more copies on the shelves that week).
Ever since that day, this is the main reason why I check every newly purchased dvd and bluray disc on the computer, for signs of random unreadable bad sectors due to manufacturing defects.

Luminous Visions, a computer-animation thing with music by Tangerine Dream. Watched it fairly recently- it also came with a CD which is longer than the DVD. First movie I bought was Daylight, also have it on HD-DVD. 2nd was Boogie Nights which has rotted and no longer plays at all.

My brother gave me a copy of Scream before I had a DVD player (so that I would run out and get a player). He gave it to me for Christmas in 1998; I got my DVD player in March of 1999.
The last time that I watched it was in October of 2013.

Dirty Work (1998) for about 10 dollars in 200? can't remember the second but Bedazzled (2000) was among the earlier purchases. The last time I watched Dirty Work was a year or two ago.
The first two blu-rays were Spaceballs and Mrs. Doubtfire at 5 bucks a piece. Still have not watched the Mrs. Doubtfire blu yet

Three Kings
Next Friday
Bought both back in 2000. I haven't watched Next Friday in a decade or more, and haven't watched Three Kings in at least seven years.

First purchases:
Casablanca
LA Confidential
Seven Samurai
Ran
I've upgraded all of them so I haven't watched them in years (I've watched the Casablanca and LA Confidential BDs within the last year). I don't know if I ever watched that copy of Ran.

I bought Fight Club and Being John Malcovich when I bought my player in 2000. I think I watched Fight Club about 2 years ago when I upgraded to Blu.

The Rock (1996) was my first DVD and is my favorite movie. I purchased it around 2000. Watched a few scenes last year. Still love it! And yes, it looks shitty on a HDTV haha

It was one of those get 5 movies for free deal when you buy a player (somewhat common at the time).
The only one I remember from that batch is Lost In Space (maybe The Fugitive was in there too). No idea when I watched it last.

The original Criterion version of Seven Samurai back in 98/99??? Don't recall the last time I watched it but it was easily a decade or more.

Re: What was your first DVD, and when did you watch it last?
This technically isn't "watching" a disc.
When I'm bored several times a week, I frequently dig out random dvd discs from my collection and run them on the computer. Mostly extracting the isos and checking for any newly developed bad sectors due to "rot" etc ...
About every 9-12 months or so, I'm able to cycle through my entire dvd collection on the computer (including the more recently purchased dvd discs), during these time periods when I'm bored.

Do you have DVDShrink? That's the easiest way to check a disc on a computer (except for those "basket-case DRM schemes" which it can't get through) and it shows all the content while it's doing it, including hidden stuff. There was one authoring program that put in some hidden pictures of flowers on many discs, never figured out what they were for. (They show up under "Unreferenced Material".)

It was Boogie Nights in April of 1998 (when buying a Toshiba 2107 for $228 was considered a MASSIVE bargain) and that thing was tossed a long time ago.

Re: What was your first DVD, and when did you watch it last?
The first Boogie Nights disc had some copies pressed by Panasonic (which rotted) and some by Warner which at least most of are still OK. When mine rotted I found a new sealed copy on Ebay to replace it, and it was made by Warner, and has a small W in a circle on the label side- the other has a P. I was amazed at the time to be able to watch such a long movie with no side breaks!
