Limp Dick Tracy - Beatty confirms plans for comic book sequel
http://consequenceofsound.net/2016/0...-tracy-sequel/
It has been more than 25 years since Warren Beatty last donned a yellow trench coat on screen, but the actor may be set to reprise his role as tough-talking comic-strip detective Dick Tracy. Beatty both directed and starred in 1990’s Dick Tracy, a strange and ahead-of-its-time film best remembered for its pioneering art direction (think a more fun, technicolor version of Frank Miller’s Sin City).
As Variety reports, the news was revealed by producer Arnon Milchan on Wednesday as he accepted the Legends of Cinema Award from Beatty at Cinemacon.
After the ceremony, Beatty confirmed that he’s given a Dick Tracy sequel some considerable thought. “I’m serious about it,” he said, “but I’m slow about these things.” Milchan speculated that a project could be completed in as little as two years, which is big news for fans of Beatty’s pulpy crime noir.
Beatty is already locked in to play eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes in a forthcoming film for Milchan’s New Regency production company. That film is slated to be released in the fall, making it prime Oscar bait for the 79-year-old Beatty.

You have to give Warren Beatty credit. He's clearly a true Dick Tracy fan, even though I think 90% of the country doesn't remember the character at all.

If he's alive long enough to make it, sure, I'll watch it. But he'll probably be 84 or so by the time the old cheese gets rolling on this.

Man, he's really holding onto those film rights. He did a TV special a few years ago just to retain them.

Warren Beatty seems like the type of dude I expected to be in a bunch of movies, but his filmography is really fucking sparse. Filled with some high profile roles, but still. Had no idea about the 2008 special.

I just bought the BD a couple of weeks ago. I always liked that movie. In fact - as outrageous as Al Pacino was chewing up the scenery he was a fucking gangster no doubt.
It irked me when Beatty and Disney could not agree on releasing the longer cut Beatty had talked about.
Don't tell me about my boys messin' up the Tracy rub-out. They were being tested, they flunked. Now they're just flunkies, like you! I don't care if Tracy puts one and one together, don't matter to me. You're still workin' for me. You're on my side. You're not out! You're *not* out! When you are dead, then you are out! You are mine, I own you!

I actually ended up buying the animated series for like $7 on DVD from Amazon, as well. I always liked the artwork for that show even if it was repetitive and politically incorrect.

They reaired the old 60's show because of the movie but that was it. I was 11 when the movie came out and I was pumped to see it but that was only because of the trailers and posters. I had never heard of Dick Tracy.

Beatty has been talking this up for the last 20 years. The one thing is that he looked old in the first movie, and he looks quite the same now. So even though he is an old guy it could still work. I appreciate the style and the feel he was going for in the original, but i think it won't go over quite as well in this time.

I love the comic strip and have all the LOAC releases. Loved the movie too. However, I think I'd rather see a reboot than a direct sequel. It's been way too long.

Shit, 15 years since Beatty has appeared in anything? Jesus. His last appearance was in "Town and Country," which was ball-blisteringly terrible.

I guess I'm one of the few that didn't really care for the first movie. Just something about it didn't click with me. So, not really excited about a new one with a much older Dick.
