Not who I thought it would be, but he/she would have been my second guess.

Am I the only one who thinks Oliver did something to slow her pulse and making it seem that he/she died?

At this point Laurel would not have been my first choice to leave...or my second...or my third. I was actually starting to like Laurel. Of course in this episode they might as well have hung a dead meat sign around her neck.
Episode was a lot more entertaining as a whole w/o all of the Oliver/Felicity bullshit that's been killing this show.

All I remember for so long, is people hoping Laurel was off the show, now people are surprised/bummed ... HA!

Damn. Going to miss Laurel. After her issues in season 2 and her poor transition to becoming the Black Canary, I think she became much more likable.
That was a pretty emotional final scene.
I wonder if word of Laurel's death is going to make way to Sara on Legends.

There's no way she's gone. Let's have a secret conversation that the audience is not privy to screams of something else going on. Also, could they telegraph her death any more during the episode? Her one last time out speech about the prison riot was pretty much telling the audience she was toast.

Sounds like this version of Laurel is definitely gone according to Marc Guggeinheim, the showrunner.

So could Laurel come back to life?
“Not getting a chance to work with Katie day in and day out is tempered by the fact that we now live in a universe where there’s resurrection, parallel earths, time travel, flashbacks — we have all these different ways of keeping Katie in the Arrow-verse family,” Guggenheim says. “In fact, you will see her on an episode of Flash playing the Earth-2 version of Laurel Lance. Katie is reprising her role as Laurel of Earth-1 to be in Vixen season 2. Death does not mean goodbye on any of these shows, but we made a creative choice and we’re sticking to it. We’re recognizing that Black Canary and Laurel have an incredibly loyal fanbase, and Katie has an incredibly loyal fanbase, but the show has never been just about the comic book history, it’s never been just about one or two different particular fanbases. We make the creative choices we feel benefit the show as a whole and the story that we’re telling overall.”

In case you're wondering about Sara:
Will Sara Lance find out that Laurel is dead?
“Sara will find out in Legends [of Tomorrow] about what happened with Laurel,” Guggenheim says. “We give it its due. I feel like we give it its due. We’ve always said on Legends we were not going to shy away from this development as far as Sara’s character is concerned. Paul was very gracious to lend his time to Legends to really allow us to explore that.”

It's just that Laurel had been rehabilitated as a character over the past season and a half, which is why the death surprised me a little. If someone had told me at the beginning of season three she wouldn't survive season four, it wouldn't have been much of a shock.
The show made a mistake by giving Sara the Black Canary mantle in the first place, I don't think they ever imagined fans would like her so much more than Laurel. When they reneged and killed Sara off the first time, Laurel was never going to be anything but a background character. Her sole remaining purpose as the show's romantic lead for Oliver was removed when fans wanted Felicity with him.

I've heard some horrible speculation that Felicity now becomes the Black Canary. It would be absurd and ridiculous, but this is also the show that turned a druggie club girl into a trained assassin over one summer break.

If they stick to pre-Crisis DC lore, the Earth-1 Black Canary is actually the Earth-2 Canary (it's convoluted but basically, the Golden Age BC has her soul transferred into her own younger daughter and becomes the Earth-1 BC).
So this would be a cool throwback if Black Siren becomes the new Canary.
...aaaaaaaand I went full taffer again

Thankfully AFAIK Nissa put an end to that ridiculousness
Very much agreed. I think they should've let the scene play out to give it its full weight. The edit was jarring and makes me suspect they were trying really hard to make it look like Oliver intervened. If he actually did do something, it seems to me the edit probably could've been a bit subtler. Then again, I'm not a film editor so what do I know?
