i think that the franchise has been handled adeptly and with care. sure they haven't all been critical hits (the prequels under Lucas), but the way it is going now (under Disney) i think it bodes well for the franchise.

or do you think it is too soon to tell?

I think it is now in good hands, but it is just a damned shame they couldn't all get their shit together sooner and give us Ep 7,8, and 9 with the OT cast when they were decades younger.

Honestly, I like the generational aspects of the 3-episode arcs. Each generation makes their mark on the world and then makes way for the next, and the next generation has to deal with the fallout from the previous generation while also figuring out how to make their own mark. In that sense, I'm a bit worried that episodes 10 through whatever will just be an ever unfolding soap opera featuring the same group of actors rotating in and out. I hope they do another time jump between episodes 9 and 10.

Personally, I just found it boring.

I didn't care about any of the characters.

A solid movie. Uses a good formula and hits me right in the feelies. The only thing it doesn't have going for it, is that it wasn't groundbreaking. And how could it be? I don't think we've had a truly eventful movie in a long time. But they figured out how to make some really solid big-budget movies over the past five years. Like everything, it'll eventually be deconstructed and they'll need to find something new.

So I like it. I'm a casual Star Wars viewer. Watched the other movies a couple times each. That's it.

Too soon to tell- I thought Force Awakens was pretty good, if they actually put out a 3D Blu-Ray then I'll watch it again and have a better opinion. If they're going to be doing tons more Star Wars movies and not just 3 more episodes, they risk running it into the ground- it won't be special anymore.

Is anyone worried about the future? Oversaturation of movies? I think some people are starting to feel super-hero fatigue with the expansive slate of MCU movies. Is the same thing going to happen with Star Wars?

Yes, the superhero stuff is getting WAY overdone. I like a good superhero movie but we used to get just one of those every few years. They don't have enough ideas to hold up much more than that- Age of Ultron in particular was not a great movie.

That was the rationale George Lucas had with not making anymore Star Wars sequels after RotJ. I also remember reading Ebert's review of RotJ, where he was hoping the movies wouldn't just become an endless series.

As long as the saga continues with characters we care about, I don't see why there can't be a lot of Star Wars movies. Perhaps there should be a decent break after Episode 9 to come up with decent stories/characters.

I'm happy with Disney's direction. For the most part, the film really does feel like it takes place "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away." Good actors, good performances, almost good everything. Snoke is awful though and looks like he'd be more at home in the Clone Wars or Rebels cartoon.

George Lucas' approach to the prequels was like someone assigned homework and he just wanted to get through with it.

Abrams seemed like he was working with some strict limitations but had some fun working on it regardless, and it shows in the finished product IMO.

I think I'll be much more reliant on critics reviews for the non-episode movies, although if they make an Obi-Wan film with Ewan McGregor I'll see it no matter what.

The tone of this movie was in perfect sync with the OT, and completely redeemed the franchise for me after the abysmal PT.

I am extremely excited to see what they do next.
