Question for you all..
I want to convert the DVD's RCA output into coaxial input for an older TV. Can I get away with using a cheaper game adapter ($10) or is it necessary to use use a full blown RF Modulator/switch?

If you can't use the game adapter, what is the reason why?

thanx

I forgot to mention that I only need to change the DVD video output into coaxial. Audio will be going into a stereo (has the proper jacks)

If you can be more specific than "game adapter", then perhaps someone could give you a definite yes or no. Best guess is yes, it will work, although some are specifically for game systems and may not work with a composite video signal. A "real" RF modulator is only $20-30.

These are RF switches and not RF modulators. This shouldn't work with your DVD player. You will need to get an RF Modulator. I see that Radio Shack has a model (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F002%5F002%5F012%5F000&product%5Fid=15%2D1244) listed for $30. I have one that is much smaller and I believe I paid closer to $20.

FYI, many older game systems had an RF output that was an RCA-type connection, which looks confusingly like a composite video output. If you remember the NES, it had an RF output on the back of the system, but it also had a similar-but-separate red&yellow audio/video output on the side. These RF switchers are meant for the RF connection, and they just switch between the incoming antenna/cable and the game system.
