Hot Linking images -- Do they become broken after XX period of time?
Just curious with how the programming of this forum works.
Over the years, I've posted numerous photos/promotional cast photos for TV shows in various threads. I've noticed when a thread becomes old and dormant after say 6 months to even 1 year, the hot linked image becomes broken in the thread.
Is that just normal? I've checked some of the image sources that have become broken and a lot of them still exist.

Looks like that image was once (originally?) on facebook? FB has a convoluted way of storing / displaying / caching images and really messes with hotlinking.
Even trying to view that image directly will give an error "URL signature expired) (https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...5d&oe=5692943F ) so it's not anything to do with the dvdtalk.
I'd say stick to imgur for image hosting (or grab the facebook one while it's alive, upload to imgur, and then use that link, if it's within acceptable use).

I'm not very tech savvy, but I thought links stay current as long as the hosting site has the pic at that exact address.

Yeah, I assumed dead images were from the original host killing it for whatever reason. Like they upload so many images to stay current and topical that they choose to delete older ones after some designated period of time.
