Movies in a Director's filmography that seem out of place?

Ridley's Scott's The Martian.

...just seems so different than anything he has done. i mean he has such a unique vision and style to his films that TM just didn't seem like a Scott film in terms of style.

do you know what i mean? just not a typical Ridley production. i know there are others, but wanted to see what in their arsenals just don't seem like their "typical" film...

so what movies in a director's filmography seem out of place?

Are you talking about the guy that did Alien and Blade Runner or the guy that made American Gangster and Body of Lies? Because TM was a good bit like the latter.

Paul Anderson's Event Horizon.

Who would have thought one of the best horror films of the last twenty years would come from the guy who's done nothing but shit otherwise?

I think he's decent at making the schlock he does.

Mortal Kombat was campy fun back in the day as well.

Plus he's a nerd, and somehow landed Jovovich, hope for all the 6'3 nerds with a lot of money out there.

This is the Ridley Scott movie that is out of place in his filmography. His only "comedy". Although the Golden Globes decided The Martian is also a comedy as well. I actually liked A Good Year, but it was not a movie he would normally do.

Haha, my boss loves that movie, it's like Vineyard porn, and a nice introduction to Marion Cotillard.

I never did watch Someone To Watch Over Me, but watching the trailer I kind of want to. Looks like an 80s music video crossed with the same noir style as Blade Runner.

Not a very large filmography but Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman). Previously directed Monster and two episodes of "The Killing" and "Entourage" each.

I'd say Age of Innocence over Last Temptation. I've never seen Kundun.

Forgot about THAT snooze-fest. I knew I was in trouble with the opening title card saying "New York- the 1870s." I wanted to shout "You're 100 years too early!"

The man did Legend, Alien, Black Rain, Thelma & Louise, Hannibal, Prometheus, Gladiator, etc. If anything... the man has variety and he likes it.
