The Thomas Crown Affair remake (S: Michael B. Jordan)

Michael B. Jordan, MGM to Remake 'The Thomas Crown Affair' (Exclusive)

The project is in the nascent stages as there is no writer or director attached.

Michael B. Jordan, the star of the boxing hit Creed, is reteaming with MGM for a remake of heist thriller The Thomas Crown Affair.

The project is in the nascent stages as there is no writer or director attached. Yet the call is out and MGM brass, very happy with how things turned out with Creed, is intent on developing a vehicle around the actor. MGM had no comment
.

Can mods please add Crown to the thread title?

They're going for an urban version I guess.

That is a little narrow minded, no? Just because a black actor is in the lead doesn't mean it is going to be "urban". Not that I wouldn't put this past the studio to do such a thing. Was Focus an "urban" con/heist movie?

Dude has quite a fascination with reboots/remakes.

Friday Night Lights (show) - based on the movie
Parenthood (show) - based on the movie
Fantastic 4 - reboot
Creed - pseudo reboot?
Thomas Crown Affair - remake

I could have phrased it better but I don't see him as an established popular actor. I have not seen Creed yet - but the first thing that came into my mind was that he's a successful hustler graduating to the big times in terms of plot.

Pierce Brosnan was already older when he started stealing paintings in his version of the film.

It would be sad if that is the spin they take on it.

A lot of people view him as being the next Will Smith (which I don't think is a bad thing).

He is very capable of being a solid leading man.

Is doing a remake really necessary? Just write a heist film--an original fucking heist film and give it a fucking title.

Meh, would much rather see Brosnan in a sequel to his Thomas Crown movie.

I don't see him as the next Will Smith at all. I definitely agree that he can be a great leading man but I don't think he has the comedic charisma that Will Smith had early in his career. I can't see MBJ in a role like Smith played in Independence Day or Men In Black. Even something like Bad Boys doesn't seem to fit his persona. Maybe he fits in more with latter day Smith but it's the earlier roles that put Smith on the map.

That's not meant to be a slight on MBJ. He's one of my favorite actors working today. I think he comes off more like Christian Bale. A versatile actor who can crush those serious roles but can expand to do something like an action/superhero role, but doesn't really do light/comedic roles.

Re: The Thomas Crown Affair remake (S: Michael B. Jordan)

Yeah. I don't see any Will Smith.

MBJ has been a great actor. He was on a great fucking show called The Wire. And he was fucking good in it too. He was a goddamn kid in The Wire. The guy is a legit actor. I dunno what he can and can't do. But he can act like a motherfucker.

He was very charismatic and had a bit of a young Will Smith vibe in Chronicle

Re: The Thomas Crown Affair remake (S: Michael B. Jordan)

I really like Will Smith, unfortunately some of his turns lately have felt a bit desperate which I don't like. Hope he recovers.

I don't see much relation between him and MBJ other than them both being good black actors. And MBJ not being part of the Hollywood Scientoligical weird.

This version better have some completely unnecessary lead-female nudity in it as well.

I like Michael B Jordan, but I think he is way too young for this role.

This is probably not the thread to go off on this, but I'm going to anyway on the basis of fucking ridiculousness of the comment made. Sure, when blacks make black films that features nothing but black actor and actresses, the society as a whole is fine with it. Nobody cry foul or calling it racist. Yet, when blacks didn't get nominated they slap the racist label without actually looking the substance in question. Racism goes both ways. If black films, BET, NAACP are allowed to exist then don't come crying OscarSoWhite. Fucking ridiculous.
