andy4343: As long as your DVD player has the DTS decoder/processor and the 6 channel outputs on it, you should be able to connect the 6 channel(from your DVD player) to the 6 channel inputs (on your receiver). Then, you will need to somehow choose the "6 channel inputs" on your receiver (different for every model) when you watch a DTS movie. This will allow your DVD player to decode/process the DTS sound and send the decoded audio directly to your receiver.
Hope this helps. http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

Be sure that you really have a DTS decoder in the player. Most players are able to pass the DTS bistream - as in they are DTS compatible - but very few have a full-blown decoder. (Dolby Digital decoders in players are much more common.) In most cases, you will need a decoder in the receiver. If you post the model of your DVD player, I'm sure someone can tell you if you really have a DTS decoder and how to get it working.

Not the decoded DTS sound. Only the encoded DTS bitstream goes through the digital output.
If you don't have 6 analog jacks on the back of your player, you don't have a DTS decoder in your dvd player.
What make and model player do you have?

You have a "DTS-compatible" DVD player, for lack of a better name. Your player is able to pass the DTS bitstream through the digital output (not all players can). Now, you will need a DTS decoder in a receiver. Unless you want to spend money on upgrades right now, stick with Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC-3) movies.
All DTS DVDs, BTW, have a non-DTS track so they will be compatible with your current setup, but not all of these alternate soundtracks will be full-blown surround sound. Still, they'll be usable.
God, I wish they wouldn't false advertise this DTS thing anymore. Every new player passes the DTS bitstream, and every consumer now thinks they have DTS sound only to find out that they need to upgrade. Manufacturers, stop hyping this "feature" and confusing the masses!

By that logic, does that mean all players that bear the Dolby Digital logo are using 'false advertising' by confusing the masses into thinking they have DD decoding capability, even if their receiver/processor doesn't have a decoder built in?
Many customers think they have Dolby Digital 5.1 as well, until they realize their DPL receiver needs to be upgraded to 5.1 capabilities. Let's not lay all the blame on manufacturers using the dts logo on their dts capable players. Would you prefer the players had no logo on it, so even more consumers would be scratching their heads and wondering if their player can pass a dts bitstream?
