The investigations that Mulder and Scully previously began with conspiracy theorist and web-TV show host Tad O'Malley (guest star Joel McHale) seem to have awakened powerful enemies. A widespread panic begins as people all over the country suddenly start falling gravely ill, and Scully must look within to try and find a cure. Meanwhile, Mulder confronts the man whom he believes to be behind it all, but another figure from Mulder and Scully's past may prove to be the key to their salvation in the all-new "My Struggle II" season finale episode of THE X-FILES airing Monday, Feb. 22 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX. It'll be back, the ratings have been strong.
Alternate Mulder and Scully are in a mythology episode? I know some people won't be happy about that...maybe there's something to that talk that they could be eventual replacements for Duchovny and Anderson

That's specifically the reason they're in there...FOX requested Carter come up with a couple younger agents "just in case" the return was a ratings smash. It's up to FOX where things go from here. Would fans be happy with a 16-episode season that only had David and Gillian in half the episodes, or would they just prefer 6 to 8 episodes once a year?

Rebooted X-Files with Anderson/Duchovny = ratings smash.
Rebooted X-Files with alternate Scully/Mulder = instantaneous train wreck. Especially with the actor they got to play the alternate Mulder.

I liked it and felt it dealt with the 2012 invasion enough for me and then left it open for more.
I will take "messy" X-Files over shit like The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Game Of Thrones any day.

Compared to just this revival overall, maybe. But the best of XF absolutely stands toe to toe with any of those shows. I'd say give em a few more years to see if they indeed attain classic status like this one already has(I'd say Sopranos is almost there at this point. It pretty much revolutionized modern-television).

I loved the first 4 episodes, but the last 2 episodes were a hot mess. If they make more (and they damn well better after that finale), Chris Carter really should not be allowed to write anymore. I am grateful for the X-Files, but he has lost "it."

Holy. Shit.
That somehow managed to top last week's awful episode. It almost felt like X-Files parody. Who would of ever thought they could make the end of the series (according to the forced title card) TWICE and fuck it up both times. I sincerely hope that was the last we ever see of The X-Files again.

Total shitshow. There is just so much wrong here...
Don't like fake Mulder and Scully.
The new conspiracy (or retconned "old" conspiracy) is stupid.

I probably shouldn't have used "shit" the way I did. I enjoy all of those shows and just meant it as "stuff". Still stand by The X-Files being better than all of them, though.

Original run is my favorite series ever, and I was happy to have this back, but man this episode was bad. Very, very bad. Ouch.
