Hello,"MERRY X-MAS" to all you H.T.gals and guys,I'm thinking about getting the DENON AVR-5800 for Christmas,I know that it is one of the better receivers out there now,but I haven't chat or e-mail any proud owners of it as yet, what gives? can someone help me from personal experience on what makes this her/his favorite and why? also I need some wisdom from the H.T. GODS & GURU'S on getting some affordable but good THX speaker systems to match the DENON AVR-5800 or are the THX speaker systems worth getting at all ! all I know so far are the ALANTIC TECH. SYSTEM 370 ULTRA CERT. and also the M&K 750 THX SELECT SYSTEM, are there any others that I should know of,please"HELP!" soon as there are only 12 shopping days till X-MAS,"THANKS TO ALL WHO REPLY !".

You really can't go wrong with the Atlantic stuff if you want THX. I have never heard the M&K set-up though, and if I was going to shell out that much cash then I would listen to both and even a bunch of non thx certified sets in the same price range from the obvious guys.....psb, b&w, vandersteen, paradigm, nht, magnepan...there are tons more.

One reason not many people own the 5800 is because the price. In that price range a lot of people will start going towards seperates. The 5800 is a great setup, but much more flexibility can be put into a system with seperates. It's a LOT less hasstle going with the Denon though and unless you want to research and upgrade for ages stick to it. It's a great machine.
As far as speakers I concur. The M&K THX 150 being at the tops of my list as well (if it must be THX). As far as price goes it's hard to find this system for under $3K (complete). Where as you can hop over to www.onecall.com (http://www.onecall.com) and pick up a very nice Atlantic Technology setup for much much less. Less than $3k with dual subs!!! Take a look over there. That'd be my first choice is cost was a consideration. Else I'd start looking into other systems such as Martin Logan, NHT, Vandersteen, Definitive Technology, B&W, Monitor Audio, and more...
Good luck.

Truth to it is no one is going to give you a straight answer on this. Speakers are a personal choice, you have to demo before you buy. You can take out word for a system and you'll probably love it, but it won't be perfect for you...
My straight up suggestion considering everything is the Atlantic Technology THX setup at onecall. Great deal.
